Detailed Description

The World Heritage Sites of Iberia come in all styles and forms, including royal palaces, flamboyant castles, Baroque masterpieces, monasterial remains, Roman legacies, and wine valleys. While some are outstanding individual buildings or monuments, most of the UNESCO sites encompass entire towns and cities. Iberia is where the heritage is fully alive, where it’s not just the buildings that have been preserved but the feeling of a distant place and time. Salamanca is a city of golden sandstone built in the past. Caceres is a town etched in folklore and mystery. Evora is an expression of the frontier from a time of quarrel. Oporto is a city of creative genius and color. On this unique and private itinerary you’ll visit 18 World Heritage Sites, many of them entire cities that have preserved the past.

Your visit to Spain will be followed by a journey through Portugal. The Spanish adventure focuses on the central plains, a landscape mostly crafted by the medieval era. Explore the sites in and around Madrid on the first two days, including a trail through Toledo. Discover the ancient city of Avila before you travel to the golden heart of Salamanca. Relax in surreal Caceres – a unique city that still receives few tourists – then uncover the Roman paradox of Merida. Along the way, you’ll get a sense for other aspects of Spanish heritage, like the food, the wine, and the sociable evenings on a Plaza Mayor.

When you stand on the frontier, Evora will be your first dreamy impression of Portugal. You’ll immediately sense that things are different across the border as the attitudes and ambiances are distinct to their larger neighbor. Spend time in Lisbon, including a morning in Sintra, before hopping north towards Porto through the Gothic discoveries of Alcobaca and Batalha. Your exploration of Porto and the far north will be followed by downtime in the Upper Douro wine valley, an idyllic place to relax after the cultural adventure. You’ll stop at the World Heritage Sites of Coimbra and Tomar before flying out of Lisbon’s international airport.

Luxury Portugal & Spain Family Trip Review: Porto, Fatima, Obidos, Lisbon, Madrid, Toledo, Seville, Sintra Castle, Douro Valley
Wow, what a trip! My mother and I had been talking about seeing Portugal and Spain for many years but with Covid and children on the way, my wife and I could not commit to a good time to travel. We endeavored to travel shortly after the birth of our third child. My parents, my wife and I, and our six week old daughter travelled to Spain and Portugal with the assistance of this travel company. You would think a six week old provides some large obstacles to international travel but thanks largely due to our travel agency, we had nothing but ease and comfort throughout our journey. Our travel company anticipated all issues that we might have and was prepared to make adjustments as needed during our 11 night trip to Spain and Portugal. Everything was seamless, no waiting around or late tours. Our drivers and guides were all professionals who took extra effort to ensure we had time to change the baby or prepare her food as needed. And, if we needed to make any alterations to our plans or had questions about our tour, our travel agency provided a Whatsapp number that I simply needed texted for a quick reply.Firstly, we loved the itinerary. We saw everything that we felt we needed to see in our four cities. In each of them, we had at least one short tour to see the city itself and a longer tour where we ventured out to see a specific site outside the city proper. Each of the recommended sites were special in their own way and certainly worth the extra travel time to get to explore them, the Douro Valley north of Porto, Sintra Castle on the coast of Lisbon, Cordoba outside Seville, and Toledo to the south west of Madrid. There was a lot of moving on this trip but that is to be expected when traveling with an itinerary (a newborn to boot) and not going to a relaxing island.Besides our travel company planning the perfect trip, we had three other issues that worked out in our favor on this vacation. We were fortunate to have the world's easiest baby for one. We also chose to use the Doona stroller (a baby car seat and stroller in one) that worked perfectly for our tours and car rides as well as one way on the plane ride home!! The third was that all of our tour guides, drivers, and even the countries of Spain/Portugal were extremely helpful for those traveling with a small child. We were given extra assistance in the airports, on tours in the rain, and at all of our hotels to make traveling with a baby simple and painless.

Portugal Travel Review: Coimbra, Sintra, Cascais, Douro Valley, Food & Wine, Culture & History
We had an absolutely amazing trip to Portugal organized and hosted by the travel company.  The travel designers and their team were wonderful.  From the start, our travel designer did a great job working with us to understand the type of trip and experiences we were looking for and then crafting a customized itinerary for us.  We spent 5 nights in Lisbon and 4 nights in Porto with numerous day trips to include Sintra, Evora, and the Duoro Valley.  We also were able to stop at several historical towns on our transfers between Lisbon and Porto to include Coimbra, Obidos, Tomar, and Nazarre.  The designer organized several tours for us to include food and wine tasting tours in both Porto and Lisbon that were incredible.  She also did a wonderful job providing us with some great cultural and historical experiences throughout our time. We were very fortunate to have our travel specialist for our transfers between Lisbon and Porto and back as he is a wealth of knowledge on the history of Portugal and really made our stops at various historical sites come to life.  We could go on and on, but, suffice it to say, we had a phenomenal time and would highly recommend the services of this travel company to anyone considering a trip to Portugal.  You will not be disappointed!

Travel Review: Tour of Spain & Portugal, Lisbon, Douro Valley, Seville, San Sebastian, Ronda, Local Culture & Cuisine, Art

We had an amazing 6 weeks travelling to 13 places exploring Iberian food, architecture, people, culture and history. It was phenomenal, and it was made possible by the exceptional job done by this travel company and the knowledge and detail that this agent and his crew brought to the planning. Their value of deep in-country experience and pride was invaluable.

Our itinerary was: Lisbon, Porto, the Douro, Salamanca, Segovia, Madrid, Toledo (day trip), Seville, Granada, Nerja, San Sebastian, Salardu (Val D'Aran), and Barcelona. We consulted with this travel company to travel at the best season: when the south is not yet hot, and when the north is not still cold. We drove for three segments, had personal drivers for a few, took a train for two segments, and flew for the long segment. A detailed written description was provided for each locale, and for places to explore along our driving routes. We saw very historical and wonderful sites that tourists often do not visit. In each town, we were provided a personal local guide to orient us, and to provide us with a feel for customs of the place. Hotels were phenomenal. A lot of details for a long trip. And this travel company made impeccable plans that executed perfectly.

I am recommending this company to my friends seeking in country expertise for that... extra special experience.

Luxury Portugal Vacation Review, Evora to Douro Valley, Lisbon to Algarve, Cork Factory, Historical Sites, Waterfalls & Beaches
We did a two week Portugal adventure traveling from Lisbon to Algarve to Evora to Fatima to the Douro Valley to the Geres Mountains to Guimaraes to Porto.  The hotels were fantastic, many of them being converted monasteries, and the tour guides in the Geres Mountains and in Porto/Douro Valley were exceptional.  Portugal has challenging roads, especially in Lisbon, Porto and the Geres Mountains.  Our drivers were safe, efficient and timely.  We visited a cork factory, multiple vineyards, historic sites, beaches, caves, water falls, religious sites, castles, and much, much more.
