Ponta Delgada – Spa Relaxation on the Cliffs
Land in the Azores and the vacation starts in classic island fashion. A beautiful hotel overlooking the ocean; a couple’s spa treatment on arrival; the serenity of an island landscape. Check-in, spend an hour in the spa, and feel the island rhythm take hold. Nobody rushes anything here and you’ll soon appreciate what that means. A slower walk, less stress, a feeling that anything is possible but you can just do nothing. The hotel hangs on the cliffs above Ponta Delgada, so you can visit the town and try one of its restaurants, either along the waterfront or amid the black and white mosaics of the old town. Or you can hang out at the hotel, enjoying the solitude found in this corner of the world.

Detailed Description
The Azores provides a romantic escape for the 21st-century kind of traveler. Those people who want a beautiful beach and solitude, but also a sense of adventure and plenty of new and unique experiences. It’s an archipelago for couples that want to get away and have the freedom to relax in peace, but also go out exploring. These are remote islands and you can go a day without seeing anyone else. The beaches are enticing, yet the archipelago has so much more to offer: vineyards, volcanoes, whales, waterfalls, hiking trails, ancient culture, lava tubes, caldera lakes, traditional fishing villages and a real sense of adventure. Now is the time to come, before many couples find out about the Azores.
The challenge with many romantic island vacations is that the islands are either over-popularized, or there isn’t really anything to do – the Maldives being a classic example. Not that there’s anything wrong with doing nothing, it just doesn’t keep you entertained for that many days. While you can get away for a few days with your partner, the beauty of a romantic escape comes when you fully settle into the rhythm of an island vacation.
This handcrafted romantic vacation is spread across three islands and four destinations. Start in Ponta Delgada on Sao Miguel for spa indulgence on the cliffs and plenty of privacy as you gaze out onto the surf. Experience Sete Cidades on day three, blue and green lakes mythologized by locals, who say they were formed by the tears of star-crossed lovers. On Sao Miguel, you will stay in Furnas, surrounded by volcanic extravagance. But that’s only after a whale and dolphin watching tour and some more time to appreciate the coast.
Fly to the far west of the archipelago and Flores and nature dominates everything and you’re staying amid a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. The village is small and your hotel has lots of privacy. A salty ocean breeze greets you every morning and you can easily walk hand in hand along the cliffs. Spend four nights on Flores, which includes a private jeep tour around the island plus a day trip to nearby Corvo island (another chance to spot whales and dolphins). On Flores, there are waterfalls, hiking trails, lava tubes, indigenous forests, and small beaches that rarely ever see footprints.
End the vacation on Faial, spending three nights in the cute old whaling station of Horta, a town that transports you to a forgotten time in history. Walk on the volcanoes, sail into the sunset, spend a day on nearby Sao Jorge or Pico islands, and savor this time of having nobody else around. Just like the other islands, your tours are private and there is lots of space to be yourself. The Azores are rural outposts, little specs in the Atlantic where very few people live. While they aren’t as famous as the Maldives, the experience can be just as romantic and private.

Our travel agent made this an extraordinary, unforgettable, and wonderful trip for our family! The events and tours she arranged were exactly what we were looking for. The tour and transportation companies she contracted were on time, flexible, knowledgeable, and provided outstanding value for the cost.
Our agent provided an incredible, complete package at a cost much less than competitors. We highly recommend our agent and her team to anyone looking for a memorable trip to Lisbon and/or the Azores.

Five Stars!
Loved all the service and tour guides.
Most enjoyable was the Azores. Doing the trip again I would focus more time on the Azores. Lisbon is nice but a whole different world. Thanks for a great trip.

5 Stars.
The guides made this trip most enjoyable. They shared their knowledge willingly and always with a smile.
The only thing I would do differently is make the trip longer.

My star rating is 5. We had a wonderful trip without a concern over logistics thanks to this travel company. With 9 of us, it was a challenge to get the itinerary we all wanted but our agent did a great job. I was also impressed by the low cost, given all that we did, and the quality of the hotels and tours. I will absolutely recommend and in fact, plan to write a review on TripAdvisor.
The highlight was seeing my grandmother’s house in Santa Luzia on our free day in Pico. I enjoyed the Azores more than the mainland. Every one of our tour guides was excellent. I especially liked the coffee plantation in Sao Jorge, the volcano museum on Faial, and the whaling museum on Pico. Ponta Delgado was a great place to stay. I didn’t much like Madalena though with two ferry trips on the itinerary it was the best option.
What I would change, in retrospect, is less time in Lisbon, perhaps substituting a fifth island. The crowds were a problem in Lisbon and we found it a little frustrating to be pressed for time at each destination. Maybe offer Sintra or Cascais but not both, and pick two of the Batalha/Nazare/Obidos options. It’s a shame to not see it all, but also a shame to have only 45 minutes in a place like Nazare.-Susan

My husband and I recently spent 2 weeks in the Azores in Portugal. We had the pleasure of working with our travel specialist. She is in a class by herself! She is extremely knowledgeable and a pleasure to work with. From beginning to end everything was planned perfectly. What was especially nice is that she took the time to understand what we were looking for and then tailored a trip to our personal interests. We visited 5 islands- Sao Miguel, Faial, Pico & Sao Jorge and Terceira. Our travel specialist booked all the tours, hotels, flights and ferries between the islands. She even provided us with a mobile hotspot should we need to reach her for any reason. We truly felt that all our personal needs were attended to. For anyone thinking of doing this on their own, I would say “forget it!” Working with a travel agent within the country truly made the difference. From beginning to end, this was a trip of a lifetime! I would highly recommend our travel specialist and would certainly call upon her for our next trip.
