Stepping into Portugal’s Storied Past: Two Week Historical Tour

Today, you will have a leisurely morning. Before transferring to Sintra, you can relax, recover from any jet lag that you may still be facing, and enjoy a rejuvenating breakfast. In Sintra, you will settle in to your new accommodation before heading out on a private tour of the town. Your tour will focus on the historical gems of the city, such as Palácio Nacional de Sintra and Palácio Nacional de Pena. You will then head to Sintra town for a lovely stroll and some time for self-exploration.

After breakfast this morning, you will transfer to the charming fishing village of Cascais along the Costa do Sol. Your ultimate destination for the night will be the former fishing village of Cascais, which is now an upscale beach resort. Before reaching the day’s final destination, you will stop at Estoril for a morning tour. Afterward, you will finish the journey to Cascais, where you will have the rest of the evening to spend as you wish.

Today, you can bring your breakfast to the beach, where you will have a few hours to relax and enjoy the splendor of Portugal’s coast. In the early afternoon, your guide will lead you to Queluz National Palace for a private tour. This will be all that is planned for the day, and your guide can provide you with some dining recommendations for when you get hungry. You will also be able to return to the beach to continue with the day’s theme of relaxation.

After breakfast this morning, you will begin the journey to Obidos, which will serve as your overnight destination today. Along the way, you will stop in Mafra. Here, you can visit the Mafra National Palace, which is an 18th-century palace and monastery that was once a residence of the Portuguese royal family. Afterward, you will continue to Obidos, where your guide will lead you on an introductory tour of the city. This tour will introduce you to many of Obidos’ historical attractions, such as Obidos Castle.

After breakfast this morning, you will visit the historical enclaves of Alcobaça and Batalha. Your first stop will be Alcobaca. Here, you will visit the Mosteiro de Santa Maria, which was once one of the most respected and revered monasteries in Europe. After your time in Alcobaca, you will continue to Batalha, where you will have a private tour of Mosteiro de Santa Maria da Vitória. After your tours conclude, you will return to Obidos for the evening.

This morning, you will depart Obidos and venture to Nazare, which is Portugal’s most famous fishing village. Not only is the village known for having some of the freshest seafood in the country, but it also boasts some of Portugal’s most pristine beaches. Upon your arrival, you will check in to your accommodation before having a few hours to enjoy the incredible beach scene at your leisure. In the evening, your guide can provide you with excellent dining recommendations so that you can indulge in the city’s delectable seafood.

This morning, you can choose to have breakfast before or after your seaside yoga session. After your yoga session, you can enjoy surf with a pro. Your professional guide will provide you with lessons based on your skill level. You will have a couple of hours with the surfer guide, and you can continue to surf after your time with them comes to an end. The rest of the day will be at your leisure, and your guide can help customize an afternoon itinerary for you.

After breakfast this morning, you will transfer to Fatima. Here, you will embark on a private tour of this religious pilgrimage site. This spiritual site is where the Virgin Mary is believed to have appeared during the beginning of the 20th century. Since that time, followers in the faith have made the journey to this sacred place from all corners of the world to witness the Chapel of the Apparitions. You will have a few hours to spend here before having the rest of the day at your leisure.

After spending only one night in Fatima, you will transfer to Tomar after breakfast this morning. Upon your arrival, you will settle in to your new surroundings before your guide leads you on a tour that follows the footsteps of the Knights Templar. Your tour will also lead you to some of Tomar’s historical and architectural treasures, such as the Convento de Cristo. After your tour, you will have the rest of the evening to spend however you see fit.

Today, you will transfer to Coimbra after breakfast. Here, you will have the opportunity to settle in to your new accommodation before your guide leads you on a historically curated tour of the city. Your tour will include many of the city’s historical monuments, including Sé Velha, the old cathedral, and Velha Universidade, which is the oldest university in Portugal. After your tour, you will have the evening to stroll the streets and immerse yourself in the local culture. Your guide can also provide you with excellent dining recommendations.

After breakfast this morning, you will transfer to your final destination of Porto, where you will enjoy a private tour of the historical and architectural wonders of the city. Your tour will even teach you a bit about Portuguese tradition, such as the importance of Azulejo tiles to the city. You will witness these tiles on most of the buildings on today’s tour.  After your tour, you will be free to explore the city at your preferred pace.

After spending the previous day in Porto, today, you will escape the city to visit Guimaraes and Braga. After breakfast, you will venture to your first destination of Guimaraes for a private tour that will include Guimaraes Castle and the Palace of the Dukes of Braganza. Once you have seen enough of Guimares, you will transfer to Braga. Here, your guide will lead you to historical icons of the town, such as Braga Cathedral and Bom Jesus do Monte. At the conclusion of your tour, you will return to Porto for a dinner cruise on the Douro River.

After breakfast, your guide will transfer you to the airport for your departing flight.
