Barcelona – Relaxing Around the Beach

Barcelona is a city that grows from the beach. Apartments will seem to rise directly from the sand and lean over into the Mediterranean. Promenades will practically run the length of the city and will be lined with cafes and restaurants. You will feel a coastal atmosphere all over Barcelona, as the seascape is very effective in creating a laid-back way of life. When there is so much beach to enjoy, it will be easy to take time out from city bustle. Your hotel will be very close to the sand, just south of Port Olimpic. After a private airport transfer, you will check-in, and the day will be at your leisure with the local beach being an excellent place to relax in the late afternoon.

While Barcelona does have more famous beaches, Port Olimpic is very accessible while still keeping you close to the city’s main attractions. This area really quiets down around sunset time, unlike La Ramblas, which can get a little too lively for families. Safe swimming is another great feature here. With such calm Mediterranean waters and such active lifeguards, this city beach will be ideal for young children wanting to paddle around. Just off the sand, you will find many restaurant terraces, so it will be easy to go from sandcastles to dinner without going back to the hotel room.

Detailed Description

Barcelona entices kids as much as it enthralls adults. For every museum or Modernist wonder, there is an amusement park or child-focused activity. Beaches and beautiful parks showcase the city’s atmosphere while giving time and space for your kids to run around. Museums are interactive, from smearing chocolate around your mouth to learning about science. For such a big city, Barcelona is also relatively easy to get around, with or without a stroller. In a single day, you can easily combine the city’s cultural wonders with the beaches. This seven-day tour also has several private tours, so that you can take private transport to the city’s best sights.

With a week in Barcelona, you cannot be bored. With all the things to do, you can stay for two weeks and still have attractions leftover. Still, one week allows time to relax, keep the children interested in culture, and handpick the city’s very best family attractions. Your hotel is close to the beach where there are many restaurants and cafes along the coastal promenade, in addition to the safe, swell-free spaces for children to swim. This Port Olympic area is just far enough away from the bustle of Barcelona’s touristic center where the evenings can be a little too raucous for families.

Touch down in the city and spend your first day around the beach, running off some steam after the flight while soaking up the atmosphere of Barcelona. On day two, your tour on the hop-on-hop-off bus. This is a city with many different neighborhoods, and the touring bus is the easiest way to explore them. It is also a great way to witness all of the magnificent architecture. Jump off at Park Guell late in the afternoon, so the children can run around Gaudi’s masterpiece as you sit on a mosaic serpent bench and wait for sunset to come.

On day three you start early and explore La Sagrada Familia, which is the magnificent and unfinished cathedral. Continue a journey into the north of the city and take a funicular tram to Tibidabo, which is a charming, old amusement park with sublime urban views. It makes for a leisurely afternoon and is a Catalan style experience, which is completely different from American theme parks that you may have visited. FC Barcelona is one of the world’s most famous soccer teams, and you will tour the stadium on day four, including the dressing and trophy rooms. Cool off in an art nouveau swimming pool later in the day after visiting Gaudi’s magnificent residential casas in the same neighborhood.

The adventure continues in Europe’s most prominent science museum, CosmoCaixa, an interactive space that has won multiple awards. Follow that with a guided walk through the old city, wandering the lanes of Barri Gotic and feasting on both the food and stories. Poble Espanyol is an open-air, architectural museum, which is a celebration of Catalan culture through the ages. You explore on a family treasure hunt, including popping into the Fran Daurel art museum in the search for clues. That still leaves the Chocolate Museum and a morning at Barcelona Bosc Urba, which is the urban jungle park that you will visit before flying home late on day seven. Make sure your perfect vacation is an unforgettable one by seeing additional Spain travel ideas.

Travel Review: Spain Family Trip, Barcelona, Costa Brava, Kayaking, Hiking, Food Tour, 7-Day Tour
We are a family of four and are well travelled. We only had 3-4 weeks to make our arrangements to Barcelona and therefore used zicasso and were aligned with this travel company. We provided them with our detailed needs and reasonable budget and the dialogue began. We ended up having an amazing 7 day tour of Barcelona and the Costa Brava orchestrated to perfection by the travel company, specifically our travel specialist who was our principal contact. She even stayed on budget (unlike the other company recommended) which was greatly appreciated. All of our plans occurred precisely on time and met and/or exceeded our expectations. The private tour guides (5 in total) were extremely knowledgeable, accommodating and affable. we did a food tour in Barcelona and hiked and kayaked along the Costa Brava- all of which was spectacular and memorable. We highly recommend this travel company and hope to use them for future travels in Spain and Portugal.

Spain Travel Agent Review: Barcelona, Sagrada Familia, Park Güell, Costa Brava, Gothic Quarter, Tapas Tour, Food Market

Our travel advisor Elena was truly AMAZING! She coordinated every detail for us such as transportation, hotel stay, and each day tour activity. She knew it was our first time in Barcelona and ensure we saw all the important landmarks. The hotel she had us stay at was the perfect location for our family of 7 it included a full kitchen, laundry, and the metro was close for us to catch to do some additional exploring. Additionally, we were provided an App that we could track our itinerary each day with our designated tour guide for each day. Majority of the tour guides we were assigned to us was knowledgeable about the history and culture. We had a private tour of Sagrada Familia and Parc Guell; Tapas Tour with a Food Journalist; tour of Costa Brava; tour of Gothic Quarter, and a private cooking class. I would highly recommend working Elena to book any family trip to Barcelona.

Spain Family Trip Review: Madrid, Seville, Ronda, Granada, Bike Ride, Caminito del Rey Hike, 8-Day Tour
We did a 7 day tour from Madrid (we visited friends there) to Seville, Ronda and Granada. The trip was wonderfully planned. We travelled with our 10 and 14 year old sons, so we wanted to make sure our trip was active and engaging for them. Rosa listened to my requests and provided a great itinerary for our family. Even though we interacted only by a phone call or two and text, I felt I could trust her with my vacation. The apartments she selected were amazing with excellent views. It was obvious that she has a network of talented tour guides and drivers to help provide a memorable experience. I was most impressed that several of the guides could keep the attention of my kids.

Spain Review: Family Vacation, Tour of Barcelona, Nerja, Ronda, Cooking Class, Horseback Riding, Kayaking & City Tours
Our 9 day trip was mainly geared towards Barcelona with 2 side trips to Nerja and Ronda. It was quite memorable and our kids ages 7 and 8 loved it! We were able to choose specific activities that were "kid friendly" so it was very enjoyable for our young kids.  This travel company allows for a more customized itinerary which was nice. Our planner did a good job coordinating everything. Our tour guide in Ronda was exceptional. He was courteous and professional and very knowledgable. He explained a lot about the history, town and people as he drive us to our destinations. Our experience was overall very good.

Luxury European Family Vacation Review: Spain, Portugal, Barcelona, Madrid, Toledo, Nerja, Granada, Seville, Cordoba, Lisbon

Samuel and his team at at this European travel company did an excellent job in customizing a 12 day luxury family trip to Spain( Barcelona, Madrid, Toledo,Nerja,Grenada, Sevila, Cordoba) and Portugal( lisbon+ day trips)  for 10 of us- 4 senior citizens, 2 teens and 4 adults.

From the get go, he worked with us to stay within our budget, recommended and selected very good hotels at the right locations and made travel between cities as seamless as possible.

The tour guides at each place were also very good- the Alhambra guide Elisa and Lisbon guide Maria and Madrid- Prado Museum guide Rosanna were exceptionally good.

He was always in touch with us before and during our trip- via phone or email- and was quick to respond to any questions or concerns that came up.

He met with our family in Madrid and presented each family with thoughtful gifts.

When he found out that we had paid again for entrance tickets at Toledo( tickets were already included in tour price) he refunded the money.

He arranged for the tour guide in Lisbon to help us at the Lisbon airport with check in and wheelchair arrangements- which proved to be very helpful.

So we will highly recommend Samuel and his team at this company for a worry free luxury vacation to Spain and Portugal.
