Lami – Arrive at your Secluded Resort for Unparalleled Privacy in Fiji

Viti Levu acts as the international gateway to Fiji. As your flight descends into Nadi International Airport, you can look out the window to see the jade hues of the rainforest canopy carpeting the landscape. The sapphire waters lap at the gold-sand shores, and the peak of Mount Victoria reaches out of the northern highlands to a height of nearly 4,345 feet. In the distant waters, you can see the outline of pockets of coral reefs deepening shades of blue within the crystal clear ocean. You and your partner land at the airport and board a brief domestic flight to reach Suva, the capital of Viti Levu and the second largest city on the island.

The culture emanates youthfulness around the streets of the city, which highlights a lush, hilly peninsula. The diverse architecture of downtown creates a puzzle of colonial buildings, contemporary shopping plazas, and an esplanade overlooking the indigo waters. You have a private transfer from Suva Airport to the dock, where you board a speedboat bound for your secluded resort. Students walk along the esplanade beside businessmen wearing traditional sarongs. Sari shops stand beside curry houses emanating vibrant spices blending with the seaside aroma. The boat casts off with you and your partner embracing the refreshing tropical breeze embellished with sporadic mist.

Upon arrival at the resort’s private jetty, you check into the hotel inside the open-air lobby and marvel at the romantic ambiance of your private suite. The balcony overlooks the plunge pool and offers a spectacular view of the layering blues of the Pacific Ocean. The tropical trees, from ferns to palms, frame the beach. In the afternoon, you and your partner can sip drinks on the veranda listening to the water lap at the white sand beach, accented by the distant sounds of a live acoustic band playing near the dining room.

South Pacific Vacation Review: Australia & New Zealand, Aukland, Sydney, Wellington, Rotorua, Hobbiton, Doubtful Sound

~~I retired and my wife and I decided it was time to take the trip to New Zealand and Australia that we had been talking about for quite some time.  I discovered Zicasso while doing my initial research for the trip and decided to give it a try, in addition to the many standard tours we were looking into.  I had many different firms provide proposals and after doing my due diligence I settled on this firm.

Our agent listened and consistently provided options and insights that resulted in a month long itinerary that promised to deliver the experiences we were looking for.  She was a pleasure to deal with.

We spent two weeks in New Zealand beginning in Auckland, moving south through Hobbiton and Rotorua where we gained a deep appreciation for the Maori people and their culture.  Then on to Wellington the capital.  The ferry to Picton and the train to Christchurch were inspiring.  Then we drove from Christchurch to Mt. Cook and then on to Queenstown.  The night we spent on Doubtful Sound was the all-around highlight of the trip.  All throughout the tour guides, drivers and accommodations exceeded expectations.  Then we were on to Australia where our first stop was Sydney.  Alongside the Opera House and the Harbor Bridge a highlight was a half day guided tour of the city in a 1964 Holden.  Then we were on to Cairns and Port Douglas where the Great Barrier Reef and the Daintree Rainforest awaited.  Our day on the Reef was extraordinary.  Snorkeling off the beach at Low Isle was an experience to remember.  Our day on the Daintree River and in the rainforest was unforgettable.  While driving we stopped as a male cassowary and four chicks crossed the road and disappeared into to the bush.  Now we were on to Ayers Rock where the magic of Uluru awaited.  The Sounds of Silence dinner in the desert as the sun set with Uluru in the distance and didgeridoo in the background was magical.  As our time was growing short we were off to Melbourne where we joined a tour on the Great Ocean Road.  Wow, the Twelve Apostles and the coast exceeded our expectations.  What a great place.  Only matched, maybe outdone by the hosts of the B&B’s we stayed at.  We’re not big B&B folks, but the Lock Ard and Little River B&Bs were perfect and we will try more in the future.

Our agent had truly delivered a trip of a lifetime.

Australia Tour Review: Sydney, Phillip Island, Penguin Experience, Melbourne, Local Cuisine, History, Great Barrier Reef

I really thought the Zicasso travel partner was fabulous and so thorough and easy to use. I would rate it the best travel app. It had my itinerary down to the minute detail, info on how to contact various people if there were any questions, and was so easy to navigate.  I would rate my trip to Australia my favorite so far. I recently went to Japan through a different travel agent and was able to compare the difference. Our travel team was so much better!

My husband and I went to Australia to drop off my daughter, who was doing an exchange study in Sydney. We started in Melbourne and had a full-day tour to Phillip Island, with a moonlit animal sanctuary and penguins. I would recommend the penguins. I saw thousands of penguins. What an experience! I did not like the sanctuary part. Tickets were sold out for the koala petting and there were not very many animals to see. I have heard there are other sanctuaries/zoos in other parts of Australia that are much better.

The Melbourne food tour was fantastic! Our tour guide did a wonderful job of explaining Melbourne's history with the food. We flew to Cairns, to Port Douglas, and had two excursions: a boat ride with snorkeling in the Great Reef Barrier and a Daintree safari.  The full-day cruise with snorkeling was wonderful, with so much food! The Daintree tour was a bit long and could have been condensed into half the time. I probably would not recommend that tour.

Finally, we went to Sydney to drop off my daughter. We did the bridge walk, which was fantastic. Each person was so well protected and the safety checks were top-notch!

Our trip went without any problems and our drivers were well-coordinated and on schedule. I would use this company for future trips to Australia. I plan to visit New Zealand and would use them again.

Australia & New Zealand Tour: Australian Open, Ayers Rock, Great Ocean Road, Cairns, Great Barrier Reef, Auckland, Doubtful Sound

The travel company did a great job for us.  Everything worked as planned. Our agent was very helpful and always responded quickly to inquiries.

Aussie Open, 44C/111F on second day - Wow that’s hot.  106 & 108 F on first and third days.  A bit cooler.  Saw some amazing tennis and had fun despite the heat, suspended play and Williams sisters pulling out of the doubles.

Great Ocean Road is fabulous, though the coach tour is bit long, 15 hours, and stops at anything that looks interesting.  I enjoyed it all, but Debbie was less thrilled due to the length and constant dialog from the guide.  We learned our tolerance of guided tours is not very high.

Cairns was great: Great Barrier Reef was just spectacular. The tour was absolutely first rate. Fabulous!! Best snorkeling conditions ever and of course the reef is awesome.  No sharks unfortunately.

Kurnda was wonderful and I especially loved the trip through the tree tops in the gondola.

We rented bikes in Cairns and had a blast riding along the coast.  The hotel is surrounded by trees with thousands of fruit bats living in them.  At dusk they all take off flying around the hotel and nearby streets. I thought it was great but the wife was a little freaked out.

Uluru was nice … and hot.  Sunset was pretty, but we attracted a lot of flies. The hiking was a bit much for some of the party.  Sunrise was early … and not as good as sunset.  We had the same guide for both, a French woman, which was a bit disappointing for the wife - she wanted an Aussie.  Beautiful place with wonderful stories.

Sydney was wonderful.  Opera house tour and story of the architect made us cry.  Harbor cruise was spectacular.  Loved Sydney and the Rocks area.

Blue mountains were fogged in, but we had fun on the high angle train.  Debbie screamed the whole way down on purpose for a Frenchman videoing the trip.. He spoke no english and we no french, but he loved the soundtrack he got.  This was on Australia day.

Driving in New Zealand, South island was a snap.  Te Anau was beautiful as was Milford Sound and Doubtful was the best of all.  The overnight was great and we saw millions of stars, Wow!  We Kayaked and swam in the Tasman sea.  Cold - 59F!

Queenstown was wonderful, though the day before a couple from India told us there was nothing to do there.  Ha!  There was plenty to do.  The gondola and luge were a blast and we really enjoyed the city.  If we ever go back, Queenstown will be one of the cities we visit, along with Auckland.

We got fogged out of our helicopter trip to the Franz Josef Glacier.  Refund in the works.  But we did hike out to see the Fox and Franz Josef Glaciers.  Not too bad, but tough to take pictures under a cloudy sky.

TranzAlpine railroad was very nice, relaxing and beautiful.  Christchurch looked like a war zone.  We were surprised at the apparent slow progress some 3+ years after the earthquake.  But NZ doesn’t have the resources for a quick rebuild I guess.

North Island driving was a bit more challenging due to more people, but not bad.  We got a smaller car this time and it was easier to fit on the slightly narrower roads of NZ.

The Scenic Hotel in Napier was fabulous.  We were sorry we were staying only one night.  The view from the window was spectacular.  Walked quite a bit and enjoyed the area.

The Copthorne in Rotorua was likely the worst place we stayed.  Not bad (the others were great), but it needs updating.  Rainy day for the area attractions tour, but we enjoyed most of it, especially the Agrodome show - wonderful!  Rotorua does have a pervasive sulfur smell to it, but I got used to it.

Auckland was wonderful.  We each captained (steered) a 50 foot sailboat in the harbor on a beautiful 1hr 30min cruise.  Highly recommended.  The Explorer hop on/hop off was OK, but not a big hit.  We did see some very nice sights.

Highlight of Auckland, besides the sailing, was being “kidnapped” by a local woman, about 65-70 years old, and driven to Mount Victoria, after we took the ferry across the harbor. She gave us a history lesson, showed us all around and took us to her favorite bar afterwards. I was quite wary to start with, but we decided to accompany her in her car.  Worked out very nicely.

All flights were very good, with wonderful service on the LAX-Melbourne and Sydney-LAX legs.  The latter flight was about 40% full, so we could really stretch out and sleep.  No jet lag to speak of on either end - we planned our sleep times well.

Travel Agent Review: Fiji & Australia Luxury Trip, Vomo Island, Scuba Dive, New Year's Eve In Sydney, Penguin Tour

As we brainstormed Australia trip, our goal was to scuba dive on great barrier reef.  The tour planner did a great job of pointing out the pluses and minuses of live aboard 4 day option, highlighting jelly fish issue at Hamilton Island during December, long boat rides from Port Douglas, and ultimately guiding us to consider Fiji as a beautiful scuba option that was easy to access from land.  He recommended VOMO island which turned out fantastic....easy to access from Nadi Intl airport, felt completely remote, excellent food and variety, beautiful accommodations, scuba diving 10 min off shore, hiking, snorkeling and fitness club to enjoy as well and literally no one on the beach in either direction.  I would never have found this place without the tour planner and it was perfect for our entire family.  I'd make the choice to go to VOMO island over Hawaii....definitely worth the extra flight time.   The tour planner also chose the ranger penguin tour rather than the standard tour at Phillips Island near Melbourne which was a definite plus and gave us small viewing area of 30 people compared to the 4000 in the general viewing area.  Apartments in Melbourne also had all the amenities we were looking for and in good location

Travel Review: Australia Honeymoon, Port Douglas, Sydney, Cairns, Hamilton Island, Daintree Rainforest, Blue Mountains, Uluru

Pre-wedding Honeymoon: Hamilton Island. Silky Oaks Lodge. Daintree Rainforest. Port Douglas. Cairns. Kuranda. Uluru and Kata Tjuta. Blue Mountains. Sydney. Our pre-wedding honeymoon was absolutely amazing! It was very enjoyable and flawless. Zicasso's travel plan for us was perfect. Our agent's knowledge of the country and her suggestions made in the planning of this trip made the transition to each place easy. She was so helpful and accommodating. One of the days during our trip, it was suppose to rain and we had an outdoor tour schedule that day. Less than 24 hours before a scheduled tour, at our request, she switched our tour with one of our free days. As a result, we were able to enjoy our tour, rain free. She was absolutely amazing, I feel as if she were with us throughout the entire trip.

Travel Review: Solo Trip to Australia, Sydney, Port Douglas, Adelaide, Kangaroo Island, Great Barrier Reef, Wildlife, Concert

The arrangement of my trip to Australia was done in 2 weeks time easily through the phone and by email. I told the travel agent, the places I wanted to see and he gave me a 2.5 week itinerary that hit all the spots. I went to Sydney, Port Douglas (GBR), Ayers Rock, Adelaide and Kangaroo Island.

Sydney - location of hotel chosen was perfect. It was within 10 min walks to both the Sydney harbour bridge and opera house.

Port Douglas was chosen over Cairns which turned out to be a good choice as the GBR, Daintree and Mossman Gorge were closer to Port Douglas.

A cruise was booked for my GBR experience to Low Isles. I would NOT recommend this one to adults or solo travelers as it was full of children (99% of ship was children and their family) and wasn't too exciting. I specified that I wanted a tour without a lot of kids but I got this instead. I think skipping Low Isles and going further away to other parts of the reef would have been more memorable.

Ayers rock - There could have been better arrangement here as the travel agent booked my flight early in the morning so I got to Ayers rock at 10am. However, the hotel he booked let people in their rooms at 3pm. There really wasn't much to do around the hotel for 5 hours. It was hot, uncomfortable and I much rather enjoy Port Douglas a bit longer and taken a later flight instead. I asked the hotel staff whether they could get a room ready sooner as I was sick with a cold. The hotel staff still did not have my room ready at 3pm - the promised time for a room. With some juggling, they had to give me another room instead.

The arrangement of activities during Ayers rock was not the best. I had a dinner booked the first night at 6pm. Then the next day, he booked me a 12km walk around Uluru with a 7km hike around kata rock in the afternoon. Bad idea! It was 40C so I don't think both walks should have been on the same day at all. He did not tell me that he booked a 12km walk. He just said he booked a sunrise Uluru tour. Had I known the walk was that long in that heat, I would have gotten it changed earlier so that I didn't lose money switching to another tour.

Adelaide was great. I did my own tours without the help of the company but it was a good city choice. Hotel was in a good location.

Kangaroo Island was also a good experience. If you want to see animals or be in a quiet place away from bigger cities, go there.

Overall, I would go back to Australia. I saw so many things but I also know I missed a lot of the country too (Brisbane, Melbourne, gold coast etc). Just another reason to go back. It was nice of the company to help book my tours so quickly but some improvements especially in Ayers Rock would have made the trip a bit better. I would use this company again but would ask the agent to lay out every little detail about each location/hotel/tour so that I could decide whether a change is warranted.
