Christchurch – Arrive in South Island’s Capital with an Introductory Tour

Your flight will land at Christchurch Airport where your private transfer meets you upon your arrival.  As you drive into the city center, you will soon see how Christchurch combines European heritage with unbelievable amounts nature woven in and throughout. Lush trees surround the cityscape and gardens blossom with roses and jacaranda trees along the banks of the Avon River. An antique tram meanders along the cobblestone streets of the city center between the refurbished facades of Victorian buildings. Christchurch is picturesque in its ability to combine small town ambiance in the South Island’s largest city. Pocket gardens grow along the inner-city streets and murals decorate walls around the Central Business District leading passersby to Hagley Park.

After you check into your hotel and take some time to settle in after your long trip, you will meet your guide for an introductory tour of the city with your camera in hand to explore the blend of historical and contemporary streets. Couples ride down the Avon River on small boats propelled by gondoliers as lush willows and tall grasses dangle branches and leaves into the riverbanks. The Botanic Gardens encompass more than 74 acres with the Avon River winding through. Rhododendrons and azaleas blossom to provide a sweet fragrance to accompany the riotous colors. Your first image of Christchurch is an enthusiastic city, eager to remember its past while celebrating the future.

Australia & New Zealand Travel Agent Review: Sydney, Port Douglas, South Island, Wellington, Kayaking Doubtful Bay, River Rafting
Wonderful. It was well planned and went off without a hitch (other than the rain/flooding in NZ.) Our travel planner is well informed on the area. He listened to what we were looking for and the itinerary reflected that. It was action-packed but the activities did not repeat themselves. We did change a few of the hotels from what the planner initially suggested (as we wanted a king bed) and in hindsight--those were the least liked hotels (especially the hotel in Sydney and the Villas-a bit shabby.)We have friends that did Shotover River Rafting which is probably a more thrilling ride through the Gorge but due to the weather we were glad we were on Dart, as Shotover wasn't running. We did the the Queenstown Steamship cruise (the lunch option) on a day that one of the days that our 4 tours were cancelled due to the raining/flooding and really enjoyed that. Also the Sydney Harbor Lunch was very nice. The weather temperature was pretty good and heard from Franz Josef through Te Anau that the substantial rain was a century event. The tour guides did an excellent job, really enjoyed our guide from Walkabout Cultural and our guide from the Doubtful Bay Kayaking (Doubtful was really more stunning than Milford). We did hit a Millers Point hotel on our first day in Sydney (nice late afternoon activity/view) and would recommend restaurants:1. An international dish restaurant in Port Douglas (best dinner of the trip)2. Makers of the best peanut butter (for a novelty PB snack) in Wellington3.Seafood and Vegetarian restaurant in Christchurch4. Italian in Wanaka (best to make rsvps)5. Hamburger restaurant in Queenstown (for the novelty) and the Pub on the wharf for a good $20 dinner and live music at 8pm

Travel Review: Trip to Australia & New Zealand, Sydney, Melbourne, Queenstown, Rotorua, Uluru, Met Cook, Great Ocean Road

We have just returned from a 6 week trip to Australia and New Zealand.  Our travel agents and their team at this travel company are personable, professional, knowledgeable and did an amazing job putting together our trip! Our collaboration involved several phone calls to discuss options and preferences as our trip was being organized as well as a pre-trip call to answer any questions.  Our email exchange was continuous and responses were very prompt.  We even received a call once during our travels to check in.  Our detailed itinerary was precise and accurate.  Every connection, tour, driver, hotel, etc. was on time and of excellent quality. While in New Zealand in Milford Sound our flight back to Queenstown was cancelled due to poor weather and we received a quick refund.

In Australia we visited Sydney, Melbourne and the Great Ocean Road ( a favorite of ours!), Uluru, Port Douglas and the Great Barrier Reef, and Hobart, Tasmania.  We only stayed a few days in Tasmania but would love to return to enjoy more of the wilderness outside of Hobart.

In New Zealand we visited Auckland and then drove to the Coromandel Peninsula, Rotorua, and Napier.  Then we flew to Christchurch on the South Island and drove to Mt. Cook, Queenstown, and Dunedin.  If you are big fans of the outdoors, spend more time on the South Island.

Our agent selected beautiful and centrally located lodging that usually offered laundry facilities-helpful for a long trip!  The travel company also provided a suggested restaurant list that proved to be excellent!  We would highly recommend this company for your Down Under adventures!  When we travel again to that part of the world, we will definitely call this company.

Luxury New Zealand Trip Review: Christchurch, Twizel, Queenstown, Kaikoura, Lake Tekapo, Stewart Island, Ulva Island, Milford Sound

David and I were extremely lucky to have had Geoff of this travel company plan our 15 day itinerary in New Zealand, Nov 11 - 25. Our travel interests center primarily on nature, landscape and culture, and our early phone conversations with Geoff were extremely helpful in identifying areas of greatest interest. We talked to Geoff a few times going over an itinerary by email and phone that helped him create our trip of a lifetime vacation. Geoff’s own knowledge, advise and investigation for locations and experiences were amazing. Any sea animal, nature preserve, creature or bird we mentioned we would like to try to see were all worked into our inclusive, self-drive, private itinerary. Geoff and his wife, Libby were welcoming and helpful on our arrival in Twizel. Geoff gave us a great start and advice before we left and again whenever we needed it on our trip. David needed some minor medical care near the end of our trip and Geoff arranged and handled it both caring and professionally, which we knew he would. We drove the Southern Scenic Historical route which was fantastic. There was so much to see and take in at our choosing. Every small group excursion or tour we went on left us wanting to learn and investigate more on our own.

The accommodations Geoff arranged were exceptionally comfortable and beautiful. In addition, all of the staff we met were absolutely excellent and made sure that every need was met with genuine kindness and concern. When our luggage didn’t arrive with us in Christchurch one of the staff members at the hotel in Christchurch offered to pick it up the next day at the airport, because we would be out on an all day tour. Staying at the Lodge near Twizel was magical. Our bedroom opened to a pond filled with baby ducks, frogs and sounds that were delightful. One could have spent days there just watching the light and clouds change over the pond while in the background the Southern Alps lingered under the long white clouds. An entirely different memorable experience was our stay at the hotel near Dunedin where we dined at the Larnach Castle, while being able to tour the rooms and gardens. On Steward Island we stayed at a hotel, which were centrally located and easy to feel at home in. The Lodge was warm and inviting overlooking Te Anau lake, absolutely breathtaking. Lastly mentioned but not all of, the Hotel in Queenstown couldn’t make our final stay more accommodating or pleasurable when David was ill.

South Pacific Vacation Review: Australia & New Zealand, Aukland, Sydney, Wellington, Rotorua, Hobbiton, Doubtful Sound

~~I retired and my wife and I decided it was time to take the trip to New Zealand and Australia that we had been talking about for quite some time.  I discovered Zicasso while doing my initial research for the trip and decided to give it a try, in addition to the many standard tours we were looking into.  I had many different firms provide proposals and after doing my due diligence I settled on this firm.

Our agent listened and consistently provided options and insights that resulted in a month long itinerary that promised to deliver the experiences we were looking for.  She was a pleasure to deal with.

We spent two weeks in New Zealand beginning in Auckland, moving south through Hobbiton and Rotorua where we gained a deep appreciation for the Maori people and their culture.  Then on to Wellington the capital.  The ferry to Picton and the train to Christchurch were inspiring.  Then we drove from Christchurch to Mt. Cook and then on to Queenstown.  The night we spent on Doubtful Sound was the all-around highlight of the trip.  All throughout the tour guides, drivers and accommodations exceeded expectations.  Then we were on to Australia where our first stop was Sydney.  Alongside the Opera House and the Harbor Bridge a highlight was a half day guided tour of the city in a 1964 Holden.  Then we were on to Cairns and Port Douglas where the Great Barrier Reef and the Daintree Rainforest awaited.  Our day on the Reef was extraordinary.  Snorkeling off the beach at Low Isle was an experience to remember.  Our day on the Daintree River and in the rainforest was unforgettable.  While driving we stopped as a male cassowary and four chicks crossed the road and disappeared into to the bush.  Now we were on to Ayers Rock where the magic of Uluru awaited.  The Sounds of Silence dinner in the desert as the sun set with Uluru in the distance and didgeridoo in the background was magical.  As our time was growing short we were off to Melbourne where we joined a tour on the Great Ocean Road.  Wow, the Twelve Apostles and the coast exceeded our expectations.  What a great place.  Only matched, maybe outdone by the hosts of the B&B’s we stayed at.  We’re not big B&B folks, but the Lock Ard and Little River B&Bs were perfect and we will try more in the future.

Our agent had truly delivered a trip of a lifetime.

New Zealand & Australia Tour Review: Queenstown, Port Douglas, Sydney, Hiking, Snorkeling, Steamboat & Light Aircraft

We had the trip of a lifetime.  We started in Queenstown, New Zealand which was a dream!  The weather was beautiful, the scenic landscapes were breathtaking and the food was amazing.  Everyone that we encountered was friendly and helpful.  The city center area was very easy to navigate and we had a blast coming back into town each night from daytime excursions and picking a new place for dinner.  Next we went to Port Douglas and Sydney, Australia which were also amazing!  Port Douglas was a quaint town by the ocean where we went snorkeling and my boyfriend tried diving for the first time and he is now hooked! And Sydney...what can we say about Sydney...one of the most beautiful cities in the world!  Our trip planner was fantastic.  She worked with us on such short notice of our trip (less than 2 months) and took our comments and preferences into consideration when planning the trip for us.  All pickups, tours and excursions went seamlessly. She was responsive and provided very detailed itinerary which was very helpful.

New Zealand & Australia Vacation Review: Land, Sea & Mountains, Sydney, Melbourne, Christchurch Tram, Auckland, Wine & Wildlife
We visited Australia and New Zealand for a week each.  It was a long flight from Orlando to LAX (5 hrs.) and then LAX to Sydney (15 hrs.) and we did not sleep on either flight.  Sydney was great with 3 trips (land & harbor cruise, Blue Mts.) and a leisure day which spent at the Aquarium.  We flew to Melbourne and had 2 road trips (Yarra Valley wine tour & Oceania / penguins march and a leisure day (which was a bust because we wanted to take the city tram tour but that tram never showed up).  Onto to Queenstown and toured to Milford Sound & went to the Time Tripper underwater experience on our leisure day.   Our B&B house was a very friendly place to stay.  We flew to Christchurch next and had a problem when the NZ Customs asked if we had any batteries in our checked in luggage and when they scanned the bag, they found some unused battery packs which they confiscated / could have told us before they opened our bags.  We had originally been scheduled to drive from Queenstown to Christchurch but after seeing Aussie and NZ drivers, we did not want to risk the drive.  In Christchurch, to toured to the mountains by train and bus; it poured buckets all day and the best part was when we stopped to feed sheep in the rain.  The next day we took a punt (boat) on the Avon and took the tram to visit Christchurch. We flew to Auckland and stayed at a hotel which was next to the Sky Tower which we visited and saw all of Auckland from 50 floors about the ground.  We flew back to the USA from Auckland to San Francisco (14 hrs.) and from SFO to Orlando (5 hrs.); another long flight which little to no sleep.  The travel company helped us plan this tour and changed things as we needed to have them change.
