England & Wales Luxury Tour Review: London, Cotswolds, Pembrokeshire, Oxford, Newport, Pentre Ifan, Skomer, Local Cuisine, Hiking

Many thanks to Eleanor and the whole team for creating a detailed, bespoke itinerary for our last minute trip to London, Wales, and the Cotswolds. Every step of the way went flawlessly. Even when we disembarked at the wrong train station in rural Wales (totally self-inflicted mistake), a quick phone call to the travel agency, set everything right within minutes. A driver showed up out of nowhere to save the day so that our misstep was a mere blip. The accommodations were charming and the dining recommendations were spot-on. Our days were filled with memorable experiences, from a backstage tour of the spectacular Tottenham Hotspurs stadium, to theatre tickets in Soho, to the wild green hilltops of Pembrokeshire, to the picturesque beach town of Newport, to the standing stones of Pentre Ifan, to Skomer island with its thousands of nesting puffins, to the tour of Oxford University - the pacing of the journey was just perfect!   I have no words to describe the natural beauty of Wales and the Cotswolds. Special commendations for the hotels in Newport and Cotswolds for locations and  excellent hospitality. We had delightful meals - especially the unique outdoor bar at the Secret Garden behind the hotel in Newport, the prix-fixe dinner at the Tides in Newport and the Sunday roast at the Old Parsonage near Oxford. We thoroughly enjoyed our Welsh tour guides and their charming dog, Mabli. This was a highlight for me, personally.  At one point, we pulled over to admire the beautiful Pembrokeshire landscape slopping down to the sea and were approached by the sweetest half-wild Welsh pony! This magical creature joined several family photos I will treasure forever! Our days in the Cotswolds were delightfully picturesque and relaxing. So many interesting shops, beautiful hikes and well-behaved dogs!On the final leg of our journey, we had a private driver for a tour of Oxford University and the surrounds. Our very personable guide, was a treasure-trove of history and lore that greatly enriched our experience of Oxford. To top it off, our travel agent, Eleanor, exceeded all of our expectations in planning and communication. Not only was the tour itself exactly what we hoped for, but her writing is delightful!  The written itinerary was lovely in its descriptions. We savored each day in anticipation and will save the itinerary to remember our tour all the more vividly.

England Review: Multi-Generational Family Vacation, Stonehenge, Buckingham Palace, Cotswolds, Shakespeare, Oxford, Local Farm

Our trip to England was fantastic!  We traveled with my parents and my two teenaged boys. We only had 10 days for the trip, so we decided to keep our destinations relatively close together.  Our travel planner did a great job of listening to our must do items and weaving together an itinerary that hit everything without exhausting us.  They were very prompt in responding to any questions or changes and we were never left hanging.

We visited London, Stonehenge, The Cotswolds, Stratford, and Oxford.  During our four days in London, we went to Westminster Abbey, the Churchill War Rooms, Tower of London, St. Paul's Cathedral, Buckingham Palace, Kensington Gardens, and The British Museum.  We saw two shows in London, one at the Globe and another right by Piccadilly Circus.  From there, we went to Hampton Court, Stonehenge, spent the night at a Castle in South Gloucestershire, took a tour of The Cotswolds, took in all things Shakespeare in Stratford, visited Blenheim Palace, Windsor Castle and had an owl evening at a falconry center where we got to handle and 'fly' several owls.  The trip was a perfect mix of city and country without having to drive hours on end.

The travel planner sent us a binder a couple weeks out from the trip with each day mapped out with our itinerary for the day, then any tickets or directions we would need for that day.  It was extremely organized and made everything very easy to keep track of.  They had suggestions for activities and places to eat, which were very helpful.

The trip was wonderful and everyone in the family loved it!

Travel Review: Tour of England & Scotland, London, Cotswold

I was very disappointed in our travel agency's overall performance on how they setup and coordinated my trip to London and Scotland.  Prior to the trip they spoke about how important it was to have everything coordinated properly, but when we were on the trip they kept changing things which made it incredibly hard to know what was taking place.  Just a few examples that we experienced:

They switched Thursday's schedule to Saturday and Saturday to Thursday which we found out once we landed in London.  However, they tried to move the Saturday river cruise also to Thursday which I had to tell them we had other dinner plans which they new prior.

On Friday afternoon I get a call from our agent that they moved the dinner cruise to Friday night.  I again informed them that we had dinner plans for Friday night (they had been informed of this as well) and the dinner cruise needed to stay on Saturday.  The person on the phone was very difficult to understand (poor English) so I was uncertain if my message had been heard.

Sunday, arrived to pick-up BMW 5 Series car and was told they did not have one or one of similar likes.  Agent told me they just received the request the night before after the office had closed.  He showed me the paper work that validated that statement.  After waiting for over an hour, they managed to find an Audi A6 that we took.

We had lunch reservations in Oxford but when we arrived the town was a zoo, zero parking could be found anywhere.  One would of needed to park outside the town and be bused in.  We were not told this so we ended up leaving and found a McDonald along the way.  While traveling to the Cotswold area, we are informed they changed hotels on us - described as an upgrade.  Of course at the dollars we were paying we thought we were at an upgrade place.  Anyway, all we had was the name of the place.  We assumed it would of been in the same area as the original hotel.  Not so.  A good 30 minutes before but unfortunately we didn't find this out until we were close to the first hotel.  Needless to say we had to back track a bit.  Once we found the hotel, we were told the only rooms they had were queen beds and by the way the restaurant is booked for both nights.  The manager told me they informed my travel agent of this but they still requested the changes.

Dinner for the following night was near the original hotel location which was 20 to 30 minutes away on narrow  and winding roads.  My travel agent did nothing to accommodate us, must of expected up to make that trip late at night.  Needless to say, we did not.

Arrived in Edinburgh at the hotel.  We were scheduled for dinner at Forage & Chatter for 8:15pm.  Arrived at restaurant only to be informed no such reservation.  I showed them my voucher that I received from my travel agent but that didn't help.  They did find a reservation for us two days later.  Since they had no openings, we went back to the hotel.

There were other issues but I think you are getting the point on how unorganized this travel agency is and certainly would not recommended them to anyone.  One last point was we were scheduled to take a flight out of Glascow to London.  I had taken the voucher which said the plane left at 9:20am and didn't think anything of it.  I was to pickup boarding passes at the hotel which I did and immediately realized they had a different time.  The problem was made more difficult because the boarding passes were sent to us in Italian.  We were able to figure out the plane leaves at 7:45 and not 9:20.  Again, small issue but frustrating...

England & Scotland Luxury Vacation Review: Dartmouth, Royal Shakespeare Theatre, Edinburgh Whisky Experience, Plymouth, St. Ives
By every measure the trip was superb. The travel company is an outstanding travel agent.  The trip was 23 days long, very complex, exquisitely planned to meet our goals, and executed flawlessly.  In particular, we wanted to visit disparate places in England and Scotland that we had not previously seen.  This involved staying at eight hotels, having three knowledgeable and enjoyable guides for multiple days as well as several drivers to ferry us to and from various locations since we chose not to drive ourselves. In broad terms, we visited Cornwall, the Cotswolds, Oxford, Stratford upon Avon, Bletchley Park, the Peak District, York and Edinburgh.  The specific list of places, sites, institutions and activities was comprehensive, adhering to a daily schedule while allowing us quite adequate time to explore on our own.  The travel company selected numerous places to visit of which we had been unaware but were very pleased to see.The company was impressively attendant to the details of our trip including tickets to all locations, specific instructions for train travel, sorting out our clothes cleaning needs, and even finding a solution to our need for Covid testing while on a very tight schedule.I heartily recommend the travel company.

England Mother Daughter Trip Review: Cotswold Village, Oxford, Palaces, Stratford, London,
I chose our trip planner because of his persistence and friendly attitude.i have. Few issues I need to address.  This was my first time in the UK and it was a gift for my mother.transportation to and from the airport was great.  Check in I was told we had a single room when I had requested a double. The hotel accommodated our request but indicated they had no such request on their end.Our guide for our half day tour was lovely, chatty and informative.  I think our guide should’ve suggested we get a London pass.It would’ve saved us a lot of money for entrance fees.  As I mentioned it was our first time there. The Chelsea flower show was incredible.  Our guide did secure us full day tickets.  Pick up for the trip to Stratford was done by one of the owners of a local company.  Our guide was very friendly and informative.  The hotel in Stratford-upon-Avon  was a fine hotel and check in was smooth.I had repeatedly requested half day tours in the country.  When we spoke to our guide he stated they had been paid for two full day tours.  They were lovely tours but our trip planner was deceptive when telling me the half days were booked. Our guide showed us Oxford and Blenheim palace.  Our guide was chatty informative and charming. The guide also drove us back to London for our last day.pick up back to Heathrow was right on time.Shame on me for not researching more for things such as the London pass but as I said it was my first time and I think it was worth a mention and would have been an oyster pass for the tube.

Luxury UK Trip Review: England & Scotland, Seaham Beach Sea Glass, Hiking Isle of the Skye & Cotswold, Edinburgh, Blooming Heather
Our trip to the UK was slightly complicated and involved a lot of physical traveling between both Scotland and England. I worked with a trip planner from start to finish and although there were a few hiccups along the way, our overall experience was wonderful. We traveled from Washington, DC to London. From there we went to Edinburgh, Inverness, The Isle of Skye, Glasgow, Seaham, and the Cotswolds. And, the first week we traveled with another couple. Our planner had a lot of planning to do which involved a lot of moving pieces. He did an excellent job. Along the way, we took a train, had drivers, and also drove ourselves with a rental car for several days. At each stop, our reservations, drivers and activities were all carefully organized. The only exception was our rental car reservation. When we got to Inverness, the rental car place had given our car away, because they had the wrong information and thought we were picking it up at 9:00 am instead of 5pm, which would have been impossible because we were driving from Edinburgh that day and didn't leave until 10:00am. The problem came when the rental car place told us they had NO cars for us and would not have one the next day either. Fortunately, we had an awesome guide/driver who handled the entire situation with professionalism. He ended up staying with us until he had secured a car for us from another car rental agency for the next morning. Our guide/driver took care of everything allowing us to stay stress-free:) My husband and his brother were playing golf the next day and needed the car to get to the course, so our guide/driver arranged for a prepaid cab to pick them up to take them to the car rental agency. The guide/driver really went above and beyond what he was hired to do and should receive kudos for turning a potentially big problem into barely an inconvenience. Also, the car we ended up receiving was a lovely Mercedes upgrade from our original car hire. Our driver/guide was also an excellent guide in Edinburg and full of information about Scotland and that city in particular. He was fun, easy to talk with and full of ideas. He heard we loved Outlander, the series, so made it a point to stop at many of the places where Outlander was filmed!  We also had a one day guide in London. She was wonderful, and full of information about the history of England, especially London. Our driver from Seaham to the Cotswolds and he, too, was a wealth of information (former teacher) and was very interesting to talk to. The drivers and guides really helped to enhance the overall experience of being in another country. We stayed in a variety of hotels, all with their own uniqueness. Our favorite was probably the hotel on the north coast of England. This hotel also had a spa with great facilities. The people were amazingly nice and accommodating. Our room was absolutely beautiful and large. We are sea glass collectors and Seaham Beach is known for its treasures from the sea, because of glass factories that used to operate in the area a long time ago. We found lots of sea glass so Seaham did not disappoint. The Isle of Skye in Scotland and the Cotswolds in England were our two favorite places . . . of course they were the farthest apart from one another .  . . Skye is an island in the upper west corner of Scotland and the Cotswolds are about 2 hours west of London. In two weeks, we traveled many, many miles, but we really wanted to get a feel for both countries.  To do a trip like this on our own would have been very difficult. Using Zicasso and this tour company made our two weeks so easy! The issues we had along the way were all made right by the travel partners involved without question. In fact, one of the most impressive things that happened, was when we got to the last three days of our trip . . . by the time we arrived in the Cotswolds we were tired of touring and traveling from place to place. I called our planner to tell him we wanted to cancel our trip to Bath and Stonehenge.  . . all we wanted to do was hike. All of the time it took to travel from place to place had taken away time we had to hike and explore. He was able to get us a full refund for money spent on that final tour to Bath and Stonehenge, and that was greatly appreciated:)Once we returned, the planner called to go over everything about our trip and to ask for constructive feedback on how things could have been better. We talked for over an hour and in my opinion, his concern and attention to detail is what makes this company so successful. We are looking forward to working with him again to plan a trip that concentrates more on hiking and revisiting the places we fell in love with. We also want to include Wales next time and he has already sent some suggestions.
