After a French continental breakfast at your hotel, your guide will pick you up for a scenic drive to Amboise. The highlight of Amboise is the magnificent Royal Château perched at the highest point of the city. Your guide will take you on a tour through the castle, showing you the most important rooms while sharing the fascinating history. A designated UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Royal Château sits on the location of an ancient castle. In the 1500s, the castle was refurbished in the Italian style for King François I and later renovated for King Henry II.

After taking in the history of this beautiful castle, you’ll visit a winery in Vouvray, one of the largest appellations of white wine in the Anjou-Saumur-Touraine region of the Loire Valley. Enjoy a guided tour of the wine cellar along with a gourmet lunch and wine tasting. The winery produces a large range of the finest quality vintage Vouvray wines. After the winery tour, your guide will take you to Chaumont sur Loire for a boating excursion on the Loire River. Hop on board a “gabare,” a replica of the traditional French boats from the 18th and 19th centuries. Your captain will lead the way through this rugged river surrounded by lush flora and fauna. This beautiful river is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Nature Site. After an invigorating cruise down the river, your guide will drive you back to your hotel. Your guide will pick you up at your hotel after breakfast for today’s excursion. Enjoy a scenic drive through the vineyards of the Loire Valley on your way to the historic city of Chinon. Your guide will share the city’s fascinating history as you follow in the ancient footsteps of Joan of Arc. With its narrow cobblestone streets and impressive medieval buildings, Chinon takes the visitor on a journey back in time. You will see a typical quarter of the medieval town with exceptional views of the impressive Royal Fortress of Chinon in the distance. Enjoy a leisurely lunch at one of the restaurants in Chinon’s historic center.

This afternoon, enjoy a visit to the Domaine Pierre Sourdais winery located beside the peaceful Vienne River. The winery is located in Cravant les Coteaux, a hillside village that is renowned for Chinon wines. Domaine Pierre Sourdais produces exceptional Chinon appellation wines made from Cabernet Franc grapes. Your tasting includes a wide selection of Chinon wines. You’ll have a chance to sample vintage bottles that have been aged for up to 30 years. The tour shows you the winery’s state-of-the-art equipment and traditional cellars while educating you about the region’s winemaking techniques.

After your winery visit, your guide will drive you to the breathtaking Château de Chenonceau. This exceptional Renaissance château has one of the most unusual architectural designs—it was built on a bridge over the river. Known as the Château des Dames (“Castle of Ladies”), this monumental château was built and designed for famous women including Diane de Poitiers (mistress of King Henry II) and Catherine de Medici. With its exceptional paintings and rare 16th-century tapestries, the château has an elegant, feminine style. Then you’ll continue driving towards Bordeaux. Upon arrival, check into your luxurious accommodation in the city center. The city has over 300 buildings designated as historical monuments. The wealth of Bordeaux comes from its heritage of renowned wines produced from the vineyards surrounding the city. Perfectly situated on a bend of the Garonne River, Bordeaux has been exporting wine to England for centuries. Tonight you’ll savor a leisurely gourmet dinner and then stroll through the city’s elegant streets, admiring the ornate buildings that are illuminated at night.

This morning, you’ll embark on a guided tour of Bordeaux to see the city’s most exceptional highlights. Begin in the historic center with the Cathédrale Saint-André, once an important stop on the medieval “Route to Saint James” pilgrimage. Dating back to the 12th century, the cathedral is precious enough to be listed as a UNESCO World Heritage monument. You admire architectural masterpieces from the Age of Enlightenment in the 18th century. The elegant Place de la Bourse that stands beside the Garonne River and Le Grand Théâtre is an inspiring neoclassical building where opera and ballet performances are held. Along the way, you’ll also discover the city’s culinary wonders. Tonight you’ll have free time for an evening stroll and gourmet dinner in Bordeaux.
