Discovering a Unique City

Quito provides an elegant and relaxing welcome after the international flight. Its late-16th-century colonial streets are filled with hidden treasures. Turn a corner to find a bishop's palace, wander over broad cobbled squares, peek into golden churches, and overcome any travel fatigue in elegant cafes at the heart of the city's World Heritage Center. You'll be greeted at the airport and transferred to a five-star hotel that stands above the central square. From your balcony, there's a view over the Presidential Palace and South America's most artistically influential church. Within walking distance, you'll find narrow streets of pastel shades and elegant courtyards, plus wide plazas alive with the melodies of indigenous music.

Detailed Description

The wings of 1,600 different birds flutter across the Ecuadorian landscape, providing a kaleidoscope of color to mysterious cloud forest and strange islands. There's the big and critically endangered, like Andean condors soaring above pristine forest or waved albatross nesting on Genovesa Island. Small and delicate wonder is found in sword-billed hummingbirds, lanceolated monklets, and shining sunbeams. Then there are the flamboyant mating displays of the Andean cock-of-the-rock, blue-footed booby, and magnificent frigate. For both diversity and abundance, this is one of the world's finest birdwatching destinations.  A myriad of ecosystems is home to endemic specialists, and the wing colors change as you travel from volcanic highlands to river-dappled valleys and then the islands of the Galapagos. Consider reading for yourself first hand accounts from other travelers about the wonders of the Galapagos in their Galapagos travel reviews.

This handcrafted bird watching tour of Galapagos and Ecuador is split between Andean cloud forests and the surreal Galapagos archipelago. Over the first seven days, you explore the mainland, visiting over a dozen unique reserves as you traverse alpine slopes and low-lying valleys. With the change in altitude comes a change in species, each destination home to a rare mix of the sublime and surreal. Revered highlights include the elegant great sapphirewing, Andean pygmy-owl, red-crested cotinga, plus various quetzal and hummingbird species. For most of these eight days, you're based in Ecuador's bird capital – Mindo – and take day trips to iconic birding sites like Yanacocha, Reserva Las Gralarias, Bellavista, and Tandayapa.  An initial night in World Heritage Quito provides the urban contrast, allowing you to explore another side of a mystical country.

Then the Galapagos, an otherworldly set of islands standing isolated in the Pacific. Magnificent frigatebirds inflate their vivid throat sacks, three booby species hop from foot to foot, while thousands of endemic seabirds nest on volcanic cliffs. Over five days, you visit the archipelago's most important birding sites, including North Seymour, Punta Pitt, and Espanola Island. It's wonderfully intimate, the rugged trails taking you directly past unspoiled breeding grounds of nature's most vibrant. Tens of thousands nest together, and they're seemingly oblivious to your presence; mating displays play out just a couple of meters from your camera, flightless hatching wait with an inquisitive grin, and mammoth seabirds dive from nearby cliffs. By combining cloud forests and the Galapagos, you get two very different experiences, meaning these two weeks are continually filled with rare and surreal highlights.

Travel Agent Review: Luxury Galapagos / Ecuador Trip, Quito, Santa Cruz Island, Charter Boat Tour

Wonderful trip!! We flew into Quito spent 2 nights then we flew to San Cristoble and went on board the boat we chartered for 5 days. For 5 days we explored many of the Galapagos islands. We then arrived on Santa Cruz Island and spent 3 nights there. We flew back to Quito for 2 days and from there we returned home. Our trip planner was absolutely great, she kept me informed of any changes, called to check on us during our trip and made the whole process a breeze! The hotels she booked were perfect. Our guides were very knowledgeable and engaging, they were very sweet and accommodating, went out of their way to make sure we were happy and comfortable. Our excursions were the best! I can not say one bad thing or I would not change any of it, it was a perfect trip!

Ecuador & Galapagos Island Travel Review, Luxury Anniversary Trip, Santa Cruz Island, Sombrero Chino & Bartolome Islands, Quito
We traveled to Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands in celebration of our 25th wedding anniversary. It was a 10-day adventure planned and arranged in cooperation with the travel designer and this travel agency, and we had some of the best times of our lives on this trip.We spent several days in Quito, including a fantastic day trip to Cotopaxi National Park, and wewere six days cruising the Galapagos islands, including an extended 2-day stay on the island of Santa Cruz based at the magnificent secluded hotel. Our guide in Quito was just fantastic; warm, knowledgeable, enthusiastic and incredibly reliable. We saw and learned things we would never have experienced on our own, and an additional bonus was being greeted by a travel agency representative at the Quito Airport, who escorted us through customs in minutes! The cruise our travel designer arranged for us on the Santa Cruz ship was wonderful; great boat, great staff and a great group of naturalists guiding us around the islands. Our additional stay on Santa Cruz Island included a fantastic day trip to Bartolome and China Hat islands on a beautiful yacht, and a visit to a huge lava cave that was right on our hotel property! On the way back to Quito from the Galapagos, our guide drove us to a music store so that we could purchase a Churango, a plucked-string instrument popular in Ecuador and Bolivia, that my husband fell in love with while we were partying to the music of a local Cumbia band on the ship. That was special service, indeed. We can't say enough good things about the travel designer and his crew at this agency; this is the only company you want to deal with if you're planning a trip to the Galapagos. It's a true VIP experience, and one you'll never forget!!!!!

Travel Review: Galapagos Island & Ecuador, Quito City Tour, Snorkeling, Swimming with Marine Life
Excellent city tour of Quito. Knowledgeable guide in the Galápagos Islands. Great snorkeling. Then the coronavirus caused the second half of our trip to be cancelled. Didn’t get to go to the Amazon. Couldn’t even go see the land tortoises on our last day.  At least we got out of Ecuador before they closed the border!

Galapagos / Ecuador Travel Review: Quito, Cotopaxi, Cloud Forest, Local Cuisine, 10-Day Tour

We had a very nice trip to Quito, Ecuador, and the Galapagos Islands. The people in Quito were very friendly and we felt very safe. We were initially concerned based on what we saw in the media, but Zicasso's travel agency checked with the hotel and guides, and said all was fine. We are glad we listened and went on the trip.

Our guide was excellent and we spent four days touring around Quito, Cotopaxi, the cloud forest, and Otavalo Market. Then we flew to Galapagos and went on a four-night cruise. It was an amazing experience seeing sea turtles, sea lions, penguins, sharks, and giant tortoises. The landscapes were beautiful and we got some great pictures on our nature walks. The crew and guide in the Galapagos were top-notch. The meals on the boat were fabulous as well. Make sure you are physically able to do long walks, sometimes on rough terrain, and go snorkeling, as they kept us busy multiple times per day. We highly recommend visiting Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands.

Peru, Galapagos / Ecuador Vacation Review: Lima, Amazon, Sacred Valley, Machu Picchu, Cusco, Quito

We just returned from a trip to Peru and the Galapagos Islands. We visited Lima, the Amazon, the Sacred Valley, Machu Picchu, and Cusco, with an overnight stay in Quito.

The Zicasso-recommended travel agency created the perfect itinerary for us. All of the transitioning from place to place was seamless, the hotels were beautiful, the recommendations for restaurants were great, and the guides we had were amazing. They were so enthusiastic and willing to share their knowledge about past and current history. We were so impressed with our travel agency that we are already considering our next journey with them.

Travel Review: Tour of Ecuador & The Galapagos Islands, Quito, Santa Cruz Island, Amazon, Catamaran Cruise, Wildlife Photography

We traveled to Ecuador last month, with a week in the Galapagos, 5 days in the Amazon, and several days in Quito.  Arrangements for travel were made through this travel agent who is located in Quito.  Every phase of the trip was perfect, from his help before on arrangements and planning, choosing an Amazon lodge, day guides in Quito and Santa Cruz Island, recommendations for hotels, and transfers that were always there at the proper time at  the hotels, airports and docks.  Our travel agent always responded promptly to emailed questions and issues.  He met personally with us when we arrived in Quito and went over our itinerary, and was always available by email or phone, although we really didn't have any problems to deal with.  We travel a lot and have worked with many other agencies to plan trips.  This travel company is now highest on our list and we would highly recommend their services for any travelers in Ecuador and South America.
