Athens – Athens Unwrapped

Welcome to the city of Athens. If you were able to untie the bow around a present and watch the wrapping fall away this would be what you find underneath. The Acropolis rises over the center of ancient Athens and glistens a subtle orange in the light. The Plaka, one of the oldest and longest consecutively used streets in the city, winds along the foothill. The path is paved with stone. Tradesmen welcome you into their shops with trinkets and sparkly jewelry, some made with bronze, other with silver. Restaurants stretch down the street giving the air a blend of luscious aromas, from crispy filo stuffed with cheese to gorgeous roasted lamb. The lively calls, lovely food, and range of ancient history are almost too much to bear…almost.

Detailed Description

Enjoy your journey into the unparalleled sights of Greece on this 12-day tour through the Mediterranean Sea. The antiquity brings with it a sense of nostalgia for a Golden Age which inspired the whole of Western Civilization. Cruise through the famous islands that combine pristine beaches, fabulous architecture, and some of the most well known ruins of the past. Your time along the shores will bring you not only to the grandeur of Greece, but the magic of its history.

The wonder begins with your arrival in Athens, the city that brought about the Golden Age. Tour through Greece’s past along the ruins of the Acropolis and within the New Acropolis Museum which houses much of the art from the surrounding city. Step onto the cruise ship and venture to Mykonos where the celebrated island brings about the luxuries of beaches and the charm of its town’s cosmopolitan streets. The days are yours to spend them as you wish, where the water is pure and the town has plenty to discover. A day cruising along the Mediterranean will bring you out of Greek waters and into the waters of Turkey.

On the shores of the Turkish island of Kusadasi you will find yourself wandering through the ancient city of Ephesus where the fabled temple of Artemis once stood. Today the ruin is a prized monument to the prosperous trading post it had been. On the island of Patmos you can stroll through town or within the walls of the monastery that commemorates St. John the Divine’s stay when he wrote the Book of Revelations. Travel to Rhodes where the island boasts the grand ruins of the Acropolis of Lindos which rise 400 feet above the sea. In Heraklion you can meander along the fortress built by Venetians during their occupation of the island in the 13th century before coming to the cliff side shores of Santorini. The whitewashed walls and blue roofs bring those famous photo images of Greece into three-dimensional relief. As you depart for home you can rest assured that the wonders of the Mediterranean were not just visited but experienced.

Luxury Greece Trip Review: Crete, Santorini, Athens, Catamaran Sunset Cruise, Acropolis, Botanical Gardens, Changing of the Guard
Traveled to several locations on Crete, Santorini, and Athens Greece having use this Travel Agency working with Dimitrios.Dimitrios was very helpful and responsive to my emails and calls and worked to understand the type of trip I was looking to put together. From the type and location of hotel properties, to the type of tour activities, he stuck with me through the process to make the trip - exactly what we wanted. And he even met up with us in Athens over lunch. As for the trip itself - many companies encouraged Santorini, Mykonos and Athens. I can not say enough about Crete - except that I wish I had more time there. If you can spend the time - Crete is a far superior destination to many of the smaller island - and should not be missed. We were in Santorini near the end of 'the season' - and we truly enjoyed missing the crowds. We got to relax and sit and enjoy. And of course the feel of the island - and the sunsets are - just as 'advertised'. Oh - and I thought the whole Catamaran Sunset Cruise thing was going to be a little 'touristy' but it was truly a great experience. Great to get in the water. Great to see the island from another perspective. Great staff and great food. (Have I overused the word Great?.... No. It was.)Athens - it turns out - is more than just the Acropolis. We truly enjoyed the Botanical Gardens, Changing of the Guard, walking down streets to find a hidden gem of a cafe or shop. And the people of Athens (Greeks and visitors both) were wonderful. We do wish we had more time - on Crete and to see more of the mainland as there are so many other places we did not have time to get to.... But we will come back.Great trip. Thank you travel company. Thank you Dimitrios. Thank you to the people of Greece!!

Greece Luxury 12-Day Anniversary Tour Review: Athens, Rhodes, Crete, Santorini Sunset Cruise, Fine Dining
Our anniversary trip to Greece was amazing. We had both an energetic and relaxing vacation visiting Athens, Rhodes, Crete and Santorini. We enjoyed each stop, getting to sample the differences of these beautiful locations. Our travel company was exceptional. Our trip planner created the vacation based on our discussions and nailed it. We loved our hotels, which were on the small side, intimate and well located. We loved the choice of islands to visit, and our guide for two days in Rhodes was wonderful. In fact, our planner returned a call to me on our way to Athens two hours after his wedding! Can't say enough about our trip and our trip planner!

Luxury Greece Vacation Review: Crete, Santorini, Naxos, Athens, Hiking, Catamaran Cruise, Archaeological Sites, 12-Day Tour
We had a very enjoyable trip to Greece - Crete, Santorini, Naxos and Athens! The places that we visited were diverse and very interesting - 1) Crete: hiking the Imbros gorge, visits to special restaurants (slow-cooking, small village) and Knossos Minoan site; 2) Santorini: Catamaran cruise and tour around the picturesque island; 3) villages in the diverse and beautiful Naxos - ceramic pottery studio, village in the mountain, lovely beaches, kouri statues for the classical era; and 4) Athens - the unique Acropolis and other archaeological sites (Ancient Agora, Temple of Zeus....), Delphi and walking around the Plaka and other areas. Our guides were knowledgeable and very nice. Our travel planner worked with us to put together a special trip with great suggestions.  We had interesting tours and great food in the restaurants on our tour. There was a misunderstanding in what our highest priority was  - that is the Acropolis and other archaeological sites (which should have been given more time and focus, since we were on a private tour). There was also some minor misunderstandings between our travel agency and the contract guides as to the contents of specific tour.

Luxury Turkey & Greece Trip Review: Ephesus, Rhodes, Crete, Santorini, Naxos, Historic Sites, Sailing, Sunset Cruise, Cooking Class

Our trip to Greece was fabulous. We visited Ephesus in Turkey, then traveled to Rhodes, Crete, Santorini and Naxos. It was a lovely trip, a mix of resorts and boutique hotels, of beaches, exploring old towns and old ruins, visiting museums and harbors, and sailing and cooking. We worked with Panos who is based in Athens with the travel agency to plan and schedule the trip. I'm happy to say that Panos was one of the very best travel agents I have ever worked with. He listened carefully to what my husband and I wanted to do, how we liked to travel, where we wanted to go, how much we wanted to spend, and what kind of accommodations we liked. He made suggestions and a tentative plan. All of his suggestions were terrific. We liked all of the hotels he recommended and were very impressed by the local guides he hired for us. It was especially terrific to see the sites and explore the ruins with knowledgeable guides who were so personable, entertaining and thoughtful. This is one of the benefits of working with someone who knows who to recommend. One thing I liked especially about working with Panos was his thoughtful attention to our comfort and safety. He made arrangements with local travel agents at each of the islands we visited to pick us up at our hotels for our various excursions and to make sure we got safely and comfortably back afterwards. He also made arrangements with a local travel agency to be "on call" for us if we needed assistance. We never needed additional help (no doubt because he planned things so well), but knowing we had someone nearby who we could call if we needed to was very reassuring. Panos also kept in contact with us through What's Ap, so that we could get his help if needed.I also appreciated Panos' extra efforts on our behalf. For example, he personally checked us in for our ferry rides from one island to the next and sent the necessary documents to me through What's Ap. All I had to do was show the check-in person the necessary document on my phone. He also sent me a list of recommended restaurants for our stays on each of the islands. Extra attention like this makes travel so much easier.

Greece Luxury Trip Review: Cooking Class, Sunset Cruise, Food Tour, Acropolis, Culture, History, 10 Nights

My husband and I recently embarked on an unforgettable journey to Greece, exploring the breathtaking islands of Crete, Santorini, and Naxos, and the vibrant city of Athens. Our trip was meticulously planned and executed by Zicasso’s exceptional team, who went above and beyond to ensure every detail was perfect. From the moment we set foot in Greece until the day we reluctantly departed, they were with us every step of the way, turning our vacation into the memory of a lifetime.

Chania, Crete: Our adventure began in Chania, Crete, where we stayed at a luxurious hotel and spa. This boutique hotel, situated right on the waterfront, offered stunning views and impeccable service. The highlight of our stay in Crete was a delightful cooking class, where we learned to prepare traditional Cretan dishes with fresh, local ingredients. The warmth and hospitality of the staff at the hotel made us feel right at home.

Santorini: Next, we traveled to the iconic island of Santorini. Our hotel was nestled on the cliffs overlooking the caldera and provided an idyllic setting for our vacation. One of the most memorable experiences was the catamaran sunset cruise, on which we sailed around the island, marveling at the stunning volcanic landscape and enjoying a delicious onboard dinner as the sun set over the Aegean Sea. The hotel staff ensured every moment was magical. The hotel concierge kept in touch with us via WhatsApp. She was amazing!!!!

Naxos: Our journey continued to the charming island of Naxos. The hotel’s blend of traditional architecture and modern amenities provided a comfortable and stylish retreat. Our travel agency organized a fantastic Naxos town food tour, allowing us to savor the island’s culinary delights and learn about its rich history. We also embarked on a private village tour, exploring the quaint villages and experiencing the authentic Naxian way of life. The hospitality at the hotel was exceptional, making our stay truly memorable.

Athens: Our final destination was the bustling city of Athens. Located in the heart of the city, our luxurious hotel offered stunning views of the Acropolis and easy access to Athens’ historical sites. The staff went out of their way to ensure our stay was comfortable and enjoyable.

Outstanding Service: The personal touches provided by Zicasso’s travel agency truly set them apart. During the planning phase, I had the pleasure of speaking with the founder and lead travel designer. He took the time to understand our expectations and preferences, recommending Naxos instead of Mykonos based on our interest in food tours, culture, and history. Trusting his advice was one of the best decisions we made, as Naxos turned out to be one of our favorite islands.

His company’s commitment to our satisfaction was evident from the moment we landed in Athens, where we were greeted by an agent, with a lovely gift, who walked us to our gate for the flight to Chania. Throughout our trip, we communicated via WhatsApp, receiving daily messages with our boarding passes and itinerary. Their professionalism shone through when unexpected situations arose, such as a five-hour ferry delay in Crete. They reassured us continuously, adjusting our schedule as needed without any hassle.

When my luggage was lost on the flight from Naxos to Athens, the company promptly contacted the airline and ensured my luggage was delivered to our hotel in Athens. Their proactive and attentive service made all the difference.

Each hotel provided us with sumptuous breakfasts, a feast for the eyes and the palate, prepared by amazing chefs. The food throughout our trip was memorable and the hospitality at every location was outstanding.

Every trip I take from now on will be compared to this bucket-list vacation that Zicasso’s company planned for us. I would not hesitate to use them the next time I visit Greece, knowing it will be another dream trip.

Final Thoughts: The travel agency turned our Greek vacation into a seamless, extraordinary experience. Their attention to detail, personalized service, and commitment to excellence made our trip a true dream. If you’re planning a trip to Greece, I highly recommend them – they create memories that last a lifetime.
