You will fly into Shannon on Ireland’s West Coast and will be transferred to Galway, which is the old city of tribes. You should note that flying into Dublin will increase this transfer time to nearly three hours. Plus, the capital city is one place where a lot of the food is designed for tourists, rather than just for locals. After checking into your boutique hotel, you can take a short stroll around the old city center before a welcoming dinner at an old-world pub. Your guide will join you and start talking you through local cuisine as a mix of classic West Coast dishes are shared around the table.

Detailed Description
It was the Irish potato famine that led the 19th and early 20th-century flight of Irish immigrants to America. Over a century on and perceptions of Irish food still revolve around the potato. There are a dozen ways to eat the Irish delicacy: mashed, baked, roasted, boiled, wedged, chipped, diced, and much more. However, the potato is not the only traditional Irish food. Look beyond the stereotypes because this country has always had a vibrant food scene. Notions of organic cuisine are not new here. They have been practicing them for as long as anyone can remember. In Ireland, the food is fresh, local, creative, and has been virtually unchanged by foreign influence.
On this food tour, you will really taste and live the tradition from craft brews to fish and chips and black pudding. There will be a complete range of flavors from shucking fresh oysters to farmyard dining and the distinctly Gaelic dishes of Cork. Part of your tour will involve the stunning restaurants in which you can dine. A list has been handcrafted and will lead you a journey through regional specialties. Most of the tour will involve hands-on experiences, so you can taste and learn more than what is possible in restaurants. For example, on day four, a local guide will show you wild ingredients that can be foraged near the Cliffs of Moher before providing a live cooking demonstration.
This tour moves at a relaxed pace and has been handcrafted for senior travelers. Your 11 days will be exclusively spent in Southwest Ireland, which is the region that holds the country’s best food along with many of its most iconic attractions. So, in addition to the tasting, you will be discovering places like the Burren, Ring of Kerry, and Dingle Peninsula. It will not just be the food either. While Ireland does not do wine, it knows all about whiskey and beer. You can go whiskey tasting at distilleries and pubs along the way, and you will learn that Irish beer is not only limited to Guinness.
After flying into Shannon, you will spend the first two nights in Galway. Day two will be relaxed and features Irish Sea oyster shucking beside the dock where the catch has landed. You will experience the Burren’s lunar splendor en route to Spanish Point on day three with the day’s gastronomy, focusing on smokehouse style flavors. Day four will reveal the secrets of the Wild Atlantic Way and includes a foraging and cooking demonstration. This night will be spent in a castle, and like each other night on your tour, the places you stay are part of the unique Irish experience.
For day five, you will be cruising around the Dingle Peninsula, sampling craft beer and Europe’s finest fish and chips. Then, you will explore the Ring of Kerry and enjoy sublime farm produce before a night in the blissful town of Kenmare. The final four days will be focused on Gaelic cuisine. You will discover the Beara Peninsula and its peculiar gastronomic tradition before three nights in Kinsale, which is Ireland’s gourmet capital. There is so much food to enjoy, and your guide can tailor a tasting journey to your interests, including nearby Cork city and authentic farm to table meals.

We just spent two weeks in Scotland and Ireland, arranged for us by Zicasso’s travel specialists. What a five-star experience! Both of them have traveled extensively in the UK and Ireland, with one having grown up in the UK. They always seemed to know where we wanted to be.
This trip was a bit more challenging due to unexpected spine surgery a mere eight weeks prior to the trip. Between the perfect selection of lovely hotels at all the right locations and the nice people of these two countries, everything was accessible, despite using a walker. We could not have asked for more beautiful vistas, castles, and cultural amenities, ranging from lively Irish pubs to the finest museums (we’re art buffs). We also ate at spectacular restaurants selected by the travel company, in addition to terrific tours tailored to our specific interests.
Not only was the planning for the trip exceptional, but the travel specialists were there for us at a moment’s notice when things went awry. All trains in Scotland were canceled for a day due to 100mph winds from Storm Amy. We were pinned down in Edinburgh (a great place to be trapped) and took in additional sites, while the travel company saw to it that we had a lovely hotel room to spend our extra night in Edinburgh. Many people wound up sleeping in the train station. Our train was rescheduled strategically for the next day by the travel specialists, while we enjoyed Scotland’s National Art Gallery and our vacation continued seamlessly.
The transition from Scotland to Ireland was delightfully easy and our time in Ireland was spent exactly as planned. As I’m unable to drive and did not want my wife to be unable to sightsee while we traveled, the travel company got us (per our request) to far western Ireland and the Aran Islands, where Gaelic languages are still spoken and centuries-old Irish traditions are still maintained. We traveled by train so we could both sit back and take in the beautiful countryside.
There, we used our castle hotel in County Clare as a base for travel by car and enjoyed several days pursuing our own agenda and taking in the splendor of castle living. This was amazing, likely the most elegant place my wife and I have ever stayed, yet the venue had a comfortably casual vibe and an incredibly helpful staff that made accessibility problem-free. We would definitely block out a day just to stay on the castle grounds and enjoy the property and activities if we are able to return.
The Cliffs of Moher were spectacular, as were the Aran Islands, right down to a rainbow which vanished before we could find the “pot of gold” at the end. That being said, we think “the pot of gold” is Ireland itself... the sites, the people, the music, the food… the list is endless. We cleared US Customs in Shannon so we were able to fly to the US with no TSA or customs issues.
We returned to find an itinerary summary prepared by the travel specialists for submission to our travel insurance company for any storm-related refunds that the travel company had not already arranged for us. Simply a wonderful, stress-free trip, with the travel company at work continuously to assure that the experience was optimal, and it was five-star from start to finish. This Ireland trip was absolutely incredible. Our family of 13 ranged from three to 70 years old and we loved it so much. Working with Zicasso’s travel agent was so easy. During the planning stage, she accommodated my calls and emails, executing perfectly on a flawless itinerary.
We loved starting out in Dublin and then traveling to the stunning Irish countryside by way of private driver. We saw so much, from the Rock of Cashel to the Blarney Stone, the English market in Cork, and the café in Cork, which was a highlight for us!
Our absolute favorite accommodation was our lodge in County Kerry, which was a stunning property that took our experience to the next level.

Our family's trip took us from the States to Ireland, Scotland, and England. We traveled on planes, trains, ferry, and drove a car. Our trip planner arranged every detail meticulously. We stayed in lovely, quaint, boutique hotels, ate the most wonderful foods, saw the amazing sights, and UNESCO World Heritage Sites across all three countries. From the Cliffs of Moher to the Culloden Moor Memorial to Stonehenge to castles grand and desolate; from beautiful cathedrals to old abbey ruins; from little country pubs to Michelin-starred restaurants; and even spending a couple days in an actual 17th-century castle, every minute was amazing! We had a wonderful trip to Ireland and thoroughly enjoyed our stops and hotel along the way. We also enjoyed the pace of our trip: 2 nights in Dublin, 3 nights in Killarney, 2 nights in Galway, and 1 night at Kilkea Castle. Our hotels were absolutely excellent, both in location and service provided.

The trip was fantastic. Zicasso's trip expert did a wonderful job. The only suggestion would be to warn off senior citizens about the Blarney Stone stop. We informed them of our ages. The attraction involved an hour and 20 minutes wait, then climbing to the top of the castle via a very narrow circular stone staircase. My wife, being 71 years of age, had a bad time with this, but we still did it. The only other issue was having to pay for parking in Galway. The cost was 30 euros a night. We did tell the agent about our experience in New Zealand and having to pay for parking as an add-on, and that we didn't want that.
