Maasai Mara – Starting the Safari in the Maasai Mara

After landing in Nairobi, a local guide will transfer you to Wilson Airport and the short safari link flight to the Maasai Mara. With just a handful of seats and a low cruising altitude, you garner stunning first safari impressions through the window. Pick out the medley of herds spread across the grasslands and land in a secluded piece of this world-famous national park. Take a deep breath. Look around. In all directions there is action, from skipping gazelle to giraffe necks poking above trees; zebra herds scatter at the whiff of nearby predators. After a relaxing lunch at camp, you take a late afternoon game drive, the first of many intimate experiences with Kenya's wildlife.

Tonight's accommodation is an indication of what is to come. Your safari lodge occupies an enviable position in the Mara, tucked beside Leopard Canyon, and overlooking the hippo occupied Mara River. The proximity to numerous lion prides is legendary and the views from your River Suite provide the perfect backdrop to combat any travel tiredness. Detailed Description

A Kenyan safari promises riches. This is a country of 16 different national parks and a renowned track record for preserving and promoting animal kingdoms. With so much diversity and such an abundance of big game it's sometimes difficult to know where to start. This handcrafted itinerary offers a complete safari package for discerning couples seeking adventure and a romantic escape to Kenya.

You'll visit seven unique national parks, including the Maasai Mara, Lake Nakuru, and Tsavo West. A rounded package of experiences unveils Kenya from multiple angles; cycle and horse ride with ungulates at Hell's Gate, enjoy dramatic nighttime game drives in Amboseli, hot air balloon above the herds in the Mara, and get lost in the wilderness of Tsavo East. It's a vacation of nonstop highlights. It's also a vacation for romance and many affectionate moments in the secluded beauty of untouched Kenya.

The Maasai Mara provides unforgettable first safari moments. Admire the plains as they dance with migrating wildebeest herds and large numbers of big cats. These world famous grasslands extend from the private balcony of your exclusive camp, the herds kicking up swirls of dust across your panorama. On day two you gain impressions of the Mara's scale with a beautiful hot air balloon ride. As you soar above it all, the profusion of mammals you will see will give you goosebumps. Spend a third day transfixed in the Mara, losing count of the number of lion pride interactions, before you begin a seven day journey that exposes the thriving natural diversity and unique safari experiences of the country.

Be mesmerized by the flamingo clad Lake Nakuru, a serene stop that's dappled with enchanting visits from elephants, leopards, and endangered Black rhinos. Hell's Gate National Park isn't home to any big cats and, as such, the lack of predators provides the chance for new safari experiences. Ride mountain bikes through hills covered in antelopes, gallop on horseback alongside zebra herds, and take walking trails that encounter giraffe and more. The itinerary here is very flexible and self-guided, so create a shared adventure with your partner and soak up the sublime splendor. On day seven you reach Amboseli National Park. Picnic and unwind above pools filled with hippos, then watch numerous elephant herds walk beneath the glistening backdrop of Mount Kilimanjaro.

A long walking safari is the unique attraction in Chyulu Hills, a compact national park that receives none of the crowds. It's tranquil, alluring, and ideal for relaxing together in the vibrant wilderness. Tsavo West and Tsavo East are your final safari destinations. These vast expanses of dusty hinterland offer safari at its most unpredictable and dramatic. You're exploring kingdoms where those on two legs will only be visitors. Hyenas, vultures, lions, elephants and rhinos; there's an elevated intimacy to the adventure and nobody can predict the close-quarters wildlife drama.

While the national parks bring diversity, there are some endearing constants throughout your vacation. Expect some of Kenya's finest and most unique accommodation as the itinerary hand selects a range of exclusive lodges, luxury tented camps, and elegant cottages perched above the action. An experienced local guide and driver provide the narrative, yet they also know when to take a back seat and allow you to be alone together. Finally, there is no set daily schedule so you can craft the activities to your mood and energy levels.

Safari Review: Luxury Kenya & Tanzania Safari, Serengeti National Park, Lake Manyara, Ngorongoro Crater, Tarangeri, Maasai Mara
The accommodations were wonderful as were the destinations Alana from this African safari tour operator helped us select. We really appreciated the diversity of the places we visited and stayed at: Amboselli, Lake Manyara, Ngorongoro Crater, Tarangeri, and two concessions in the Maasai Mara. Each park and each camp had something special to offer. One camp had only luxury 7 tents, one had 40 raised tents . Some were in between (with 15-20 individual units). Not all accommodations were tented... as Alana selected some luxury smaller lodge type properties too. Each was different and had a unique personality which only added to the trip. Whether it was the view of Kilimanjaro, the resident warthogs, the sneaky monkeys, the elephants that visited the water hole for an evening drink, the gourmet food, the incredible service, the night game drive, the walking safari, the picnic breakfast or the Maasai spotters.. each facility and each destination was perfect.

Kenya & Tanzania Vacation Review: Amboseli National Park, Maasai Mara, Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, Zanzibar, Stone Town, Safari

February 2021, I submitted a request through Zicasso to plan a group trip to Kenya,Tanzania and Zanzibar for June 2022. I was matched with Maurice. This travel company has surpassed our expectations and provided an amazing experience we will never forget. The camps were top rated, and we had a fantastic time there. In fact, all the accommodations we stayed at were phenomenal. They were beautiful, clean, each room had an amazing view, the staff were very attentive, and the food was top notch. Maurice even planned a few surprises for our group along the way.

Maurice booked all of our in-country transfers (both by car and plane). All we had to do was show up at the lobby of each accommodation at the time specified and everything else was taken care of. Our drivers were exceptional as well. We spent time in Amboseli National Park, Maasai Mara, the Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater and ended on the beach of Zanzibar. Our drivers at Amboseli had many years’ experience, they were very knowledgeable about all of the animals. Within 5 minutes landing at the air strip, they took us straight to see many of the animals, especially a family of cheetahs eating their prey! Our drivers at the Maasai Mara were great as well. We told him we wanted to see a lots of lions and they didn’t disappoint. On our morning game drive, we saw lions feasting on a buffalo, we also saw a leopard with a vulture in a tree. Our drivers in the Serengeti & Ngorongoro were excellent as well, they took us to all the best locations to capture the animals. We were even able to catch a glimpse of a rhino in the distance. They did their best to ensure we were able to see the big 5 and the ugly 5. We then ended the trip visiting Zanzibar’s beaches, a spice tour & Stone Town.

I highly recommend using Maurice and this travel company for travel tours, safaris and vacations in the future and look forward to working with him again! Asante sana!

Kenya, Tanzania Vacation Review: Nairobi, Amboseli, Lake Nakuru, Maasai Mara, Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, Zanzibar

Our couple's trip to Kenya, Tanzania, and Zanzibar was truly amazing and a once-in-a-lifetime experience. We went to Nairobi, Amboseli, Lake Nakuru, Maasai Mara, Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, and Zanzibar over two weeks.

Zicasso’s travel agency made it an easy and seamless experience. They communicated well, took care of us before we landed, and provided guidance on everything we needed, including what to pack.

After we landed, they met us at the airport, provided all transfers, and had their experienced drivers transport us around the country and take us on game drives. We loved our time with our guides in Kenya and Tanzania.

We were also able to visit a Maasai village and learn about their culture. It was wonderful to talk over campfires and learn about their experiences.

The service at every camp and hotel was exceptional, and whenever we had a question or issue, our agent was quickly available to triage.

We would, without hesitation, highly recommend a trip like this! Do it!

Our agent gave us the most magical trip and was able to keep it within our budget.

Luxury Africa Safari in Kenya & Tanzania Review: Amboseli National Park, Masaai Mara National Reserve, Serengeti, Ngorogoro Crate
This travel company has surpassed our expectations and provided an amazing experience we will never forget. The itinerary our trip planner provided was excellent. Typically in June (the time we went), the migration is still in the Serengeti, however this year, the migration headed to Kenya early. Our planner had booked a camp in the Western Serengeti that would have overlooked the migration, however nature is unpredictable. The camp was top rated and we still had a fantastic time there. In fact, all the accommodations we stayed at were phenomenal. They were beautiful, clean, each room had an amazing view, the staff were all very attentive, and the food was top notch.  My husband and I are well traveled, and this was by far the least stressful and worry-free trip we've taken thanks to our trip planner's meticulous planning. Aside from the flight there and one intracountry flight, the planner booked all of our transfers (both by car and plane). All we had to do was show up at the lobby of each accommodation at the time specified and everything else was taken care of. All of our drivers were exceptional as well. We spent time in Amboseli National Park, Masaai Mara, the Serengeti and Ngorogoro Crater and unbeknownst to us, the trip planner had set up private drivers for us! Our first driver at Amboseli has over 30 years experience, he was very knowledgeable about all of the animals. Within 5 minutes of entering the national park, he took us straight away to see lion cubs! Our driver at the Masaai Mara was great as well. We told him we wanted to see a cheetah and straight away, he found one for us. We even got a chance to follow it and witness it attempt a hunt! He also was able to find a leopard (which is very hard to find) and got us front row seats to it eating its prey. Our final driver in the Serengeti customer service was impeccable. As soon as we landed he had provided us snacks and coffee all set up before we headed to the first game drive. He also made sure we were able to finish seeing the big 5 as the only thing left to see was the rhino. With our final driver, we also saw a lion hunt as well!

Review: Africa Safari, Kenya, Wildlife, Local Crafts

We had an amazing trip, every detail was arranged for us. The camps chosen took good care of us, we felt safe and welcomed. The best camp was  in the Maasai Mara. The staff there were particularly welcoming and friendly, from the moment we were picked up from our flight we knew we were in good hands. The tents were all excellent, food at the Masai Mara and Oll Pejeta were stand outs. Our experience with the Elephant Camp was not so good. The people were not as welcoming and the food was often cold (breakfast). The staff didn’t seem as happy as the other two camps.

Kenya Luxury Trip Review: Amboseli, Lewa, Maasai Mara, Safari, Culture, 12-Day Tour

From the initial email contact and telephone conversation with the Zicasso travel agent, we could sense we were in good hands. He was very responsive to our ideas about a trip to Africa and his vast knowledge of the continent was immediately evident. Based on the information provided he quickly turned around a proposed itinerary for a trip to Kenya. Ultimately, we decided on safaris in Amboseli, Lewa, and Maasai Mara. Each location was beautiful in its own unique way. The accommodations were more than comfortable and the food was excellent. The Kenyan people were beyond friendly and the wildlife viewing was amazing.

In addition, we got some sense of the local cultures and were very pleased to learn that a portion of the revenue generated by our stays in each location went to the local conservation efforts.

The logistics of the trip were seamless, starting with our arrival in Nairobi very late on a Monday night, through to our return to the Nairobi airport on the evening of our departure.

The team at the travel agency handled all of the details and enabled our family to truly experience the trip of a lifetime. We would recommend this travel agency without reservation.
