What to expect on this itinerary

Three destinations truly evoke and encompass Spain’s seduction. Madrid is the capital of atmospheric terraces, regal art, and astonishing monuments. Seville is the home of flamenco, vibrant Andalusian culture, and the legacy of conquistadores. And Barcelona is the icon of coastal pleasures, Catalonian pride, and Gaudi’s inspiration. Savor four days at each destination, two dedicated to the cities, and two reserved for private day-trips in the evocative surrounding regions.

Madrid – A Feast of Tapas Welcomes You to the Spanish Capital

Madrid always surprises, with visitors expecting a bustling city, but discovering the serene atmosphere of a city lounging in the past. Lunch time regularly extends until 4 pm, maze-like central lanes are great when you do not have a map, and the outdoor scents move from coffee to red wine as the day progresses. This is a city that lives outside, with chatter emanating from al fresco terraces, and the sense that what could be done today can be left for tomorrow. This laid-back style makes Madrid an excellent starting point, particularly if you are prone to jet lag. There is something going on at all hours of the day and something to enjoy whenever you are exploring.

You are greeted at the airport, and it is a short, chauffeured transfer into the city, where your hotel is nestled in the city’s old quarter, within a five-minute walk of the Plaza Mayor. The afternoon is at your leisure, and the central streets make for easy exploration. Then it is the scents that guide you through the evening, as a private tapas tour introduces the gastronomy of a country. Juxtaposed bars are run by chefs from distinctive regions. Sample octopus from Galicia, sea urchin pintxos (small plates) from Basque, hams and cheeses with regional flavors, and a simmering chorizo stew that sends its fragrances far down the street. Tapas is an accompaniment, of course, served with a drink. This tour of gastronomy also incorporates the wines of the country, starting with a Cava, moving through La Rioja, culminating with Ribera del Duero wines.

Detailed Description

Some European countries make for obvious itineraries. London is practically unavoidable in the UK. A first-time visit to France rarely misses Paris. How many people plan to visit Italy without seeing Rome? Spain is a little different. This is a country with so many iconic destinations, and each is as revered as the next. Regional diversity is alive in the language, cuisine, atmosphere, and style. Architectural wonder spans the centuries, from the Modernist movement to the mosques built by the Moors. Close to 50 World Heritage Sites dot the country, from opulent palaces to roving cathedrals and imperial cities. There are also the distinctive experiences, only available in a tiny part of the country. Here you will experience an authentic flamenco performance, sparkling Cava, idiosyncratic art, and architecture. Often, it can feel like there is too much choice.

This handcrafted private tour immerses you in Spain’s three most distinctive destinations, giving you a real flavor of country capital Madrid, Andalusian capital Sevilla, and Catalonian capital Barcelona. Spending four days in each city creates a relaxed program, two days dedicated to the best of the city and two days reserved for private tours in the wider region. So much comes together when you have this much time, although, like all handcrafted itineraries, this three-destination tour can be shortened to specific preferences. Authentic and intimate, this luxury tour is not just about the monuments and major sites. It also focuses on the local atmosphere, as told through culture, cuisine, and chatter on the outdoor terraces.

Start in Madrid, as relaxed a capital as any in Europe. Explore its legendary art galleries, take a tour through streets of tapas, settle into the ambience of plazas and terraces, and discover a city that always has time to stop and chat. Two days in the compact central city are followed by day trips to El Escorial, a remarkable palace that houses so much of the gold taken from the New World, and the old-world Imperial City of Toledo. Both are less than an hour’s travel from Madrid, and you return to the capital in time for the late afternoon, when terraces start getting busy, and the inviting ambience of the city is in full swing.

It’s two-and-half-hours by high-speed train to Seville, a first-class journey providing an easy window onto the landscapes of rural Spain. Wander the streets of cobblestone and curiosity, absorbing the fiery atmosphere of Andalusia and the south. Exploring the architecture honors the conquistadors who led Spain through Golden Age fame. Exploring the ambience is personified by a night of flamenco, a performance of improvisation and beauty in a local bar. The tiny white village of Arcos de la Frontera is your day-trip destination today, then the old Moorish capital of Cordoba holds you captive tomorrow. These two ancient places are completely different, yet both feel emblematic of Andalusia.

Fly to Barcelona, where your hotel is neatly located within Barri Gotic, on streets that have been around since the Roman era. Gaudi’s architecture takes centerstage but there is much more than La Sagrada Familia and Park Guell, as a guide takes you to the casas (houses) that reflect early Modernist work. Discover various vintages with a day in the Penedes Wine Region, home of Cava and some exceptional cuisine. Then feel the spirituality of the old-world at Montserrat, where a choir sings, and the mountain engulfs you in silence. There is a free day to enjoy the coast along with some personalized dining recommendations to make the most of the Catalonian pleasures. Like Madrid, Barcelona offers extensive flight connections for your journey back home.

Travel Review: Luxury Spain Tour, Barcelona, Madrid, Seville, Olympic Stadium, Tapas Tour, Castles, Morning Runs

What a marvelous trip in Barcelona, Madrid and Seville we had thanks to our travel agency! As experienced travelers, we have worked with many tour agencies around the world. This company is among the best! Our agent paid careful attention to our preferences and desires. We opted for some private tours and some free time in each city. There were so many suggestions for restaurants and activities that we didn't miss any opportunities. We had one very minor scheduling issues as a museum was closed earlier than expected. Our agent responded within minutes and had already contacted the local guide to adjust our schedule. We couldn't have been taken care of any better during our tour of Spain!

Spain Travel Agent Review: Barcelona, Madrid, Seville, Gaudi, Sagrada Familia, Flamenco Show, Prado Museum, 6-Day Tour

The trip was supposed to cover Spain, Portugal, and Morocco for our supposed honeymoon in May 2020, but COVID-19 hit and the plan had to be changed. Notes:

- In the introduction phase, I could tell that Samuel is a service-oriented person, by the way he acted quickly to schedule a call to discuss what our preferences are. He is warm, friendly, and efficient, and he will want to get to know a client well before giving recommendations.

- I also had a smooth time with the refund process. I was given options to defer the trip to 2021 or cancel; I chose the former in March but as things became even more uncertain, I ultimately canceled the trip in June 2020. The refund process was smooth, and Samuel responded very promptly and considerately, as usual.

My wife and I got married eventually, and we moved to France in 2021. In October 2021, we decided to continue with the trip but condensed it to 6 days and within Spain only. We got in touch with Samuel again to plan a trip for November 2021. Notes:

- We want to commend Samuel for putting together the trip on such short notice. We were impressed by such a level of expertise and connections. Further proof that our trip would be in good hands.

We went on a 6-day tour covering Barcelona, Madrid, and Seville. We were surprised at how pampered we were throughout the whole trip. And we want to commend Samuel, Paloma, and the team for curating such a unique experience for us. Notes:

- Samuel and Paloma are very, very detailed. Prior to the trip, we received reminders about the EU Digital COVID Certificate, a detailed itinerary, a restaurant and food guide, and a travel pack containing our train tickets and detailed instructions regarding transportation along every step of the journey.

- Barcelona: Our guide was very passionate about the architecture of the city, Gaudi's works, and the Sagrada Familia. We had a very informative tour of Sagrada Familia, Park Güell, and many others, and she gave tips about the Barcelona dining scene. Overall, it was a very pleasant, educational experience.

- Madrid: Another amazing experience for us. Our guide took us around the sights of the city, explaining its architecture in detail. We appreciated how she structured her tour of the Prado Museum and the old city, which gave us a deeper understanding of Spanish history and its national psyche. In the evening, we watched a flamenco show (part of the tour), which was also quite a unique experience. The next day, our guide took us on a gastronomical journey around Madrid, and all stops were fantastic. He introduced Madrid to us in such a warm manner, evoking their own memories and experiences as Madrilenos while having us experience such sumptuous food.

- Seville: The last leg, and yet no less wonderful. On the day of arrival, our guide took us on a tapas tour, and then some. We had just so many amazing local tapas and drinks, but she also gave us insights about life in Seville and its past. As with Madrid, the food choices were very good; but after the tour, our guide gave even more recommendations of what to eat in Seville. Last, our guide gave us our last, and no less insightful, tour of landmarks such as the Alcazar and the cathedral. It was another enriching experience for us.

Overall, the trip was well-organized and well-curated. The timing was perfect, and the selection of sights, guides, and accommodation was excellent. Though we never got to meet Samuel in person, we felt that he got to know us and planned our trip well based on that. We will definitely get their services again.

BONUS: We went on a separate group trip to Tenerife in December 2021, and Samuel was quick to share his recommendations on things to see and do and where to eat as soon as he learned we went there. Excellent service, even to past clients! You'll be in good hands, for sure.

Travel Review: Custom Family Vacation to Spain, Barcelona, Granada, Alhambra, Generalife, Sevilla, Cordoba, Madrid, Toledo,...
We had a great time. For me it was an opportunity to revisit Barcelona and Seville and to visit some must see sights in other cities for the first time. For my 38 Y.O. son… he is still raving and bloging about it. The prearranged tours and transfers went well. Without a group, we were able to have a lot of free time to explore on our own and take advantage of some of the restaurant recommendations provided by this Spain tour operator. The hotels were all good and well located; location is very important to me. I lost my sunglasses in Seville. The tour operator confirmed that the Hotel Las Casas de la Judería had found them in our room and arranged for them to be sent to my home. I received the glasses in good shape. A much appreciated extra service. In all, it was an A+ experience. Thank you, Peter G Sandbank

Spain Vacation Review: Barcelona, Madrid, Seville, Ronda, Marbella, Sagrada Familia, Alcazar, Flamenco Show, Shopping Tour

I cannot speak highly enough about our 3 week trip to Spain and the services provided by this travel company.  Everything was seamless. The private guides were interesting and knowledgable.  We felt that they were more than just guides.  It was like we had a friend in each city.  They gave us restaurant tips as well as tips on sights we should see on our days of leisure and on entertainment ideas. We were made to feel like honored guests at various activities.  There were so many highlights.  We had an insider's flamenco experience where a gypsy family and friends explained each facet of flamenco and then performed it for us in a tiny theater.  We had a wine tasting in Ronda with the owner of the winery.  We sat under an avocado tree and met the owner's daughter and a Hungarian couple and a few other people.  The wine was flowing and cheeses and iberico ham was served.  We never opened our wallets for the various activities.  In Barcelona the wonderful guide got us in ahead of the long lines.  This was true with all the guides in all the cities.  In this way we made the most of our time as we did not have to wait in long lines.  We enjoyed two tapas tours in Madrid on our first night and in Seville.  The tapas are different in the two cities justifying two tours.  We then went back on our own to the tapas places which we never would have found on our own. We thoroughly enjoyed a cooking class in Barcelona that began at 9:30 am with a shopping tour at La Boqueria market to buy ingredients for gazpacho and seafood paella.  We were there until 3pm.  We enjoyed the teacher, the food, the wine, the other members of the class. Private drivers arrived early in upscale immaculate cars.  In the Ronda area we had a driver and a guide.  You need a very skilled driver to navigate the very narrow streets.  The hotels were fabulous, some with beautiful courtyards.  We were upgraded to a junior suite in a beach resort in Marbella.  We have had private guides in the past through other travel agents who were not as excellent as the guides provided by this travel agency.  This trip exceeded out expectations in every way.

Spain Family Tour Review: Seville, Madrid, Mijas, Malaga, Marbella, Granada, Marbella, Lisbon, Flamenco, Museum, Winery, Cruise
Our daughter Sophie had been studying abroad since January in Seville, Spain. We needed to plan a family trip to see where she was living and enjoy her experiences there. We live in Minneapolis, Minnesota and had no idea where to even begin with our adventures in Spain!  So, I went online and through many reviews of travel agencies, I found Zicasso to have great reviews. Once we decided on a really good fit with Rosa from the travel agency who teams up with Zicasso for the region you are visiting. We flew out to join our daughter mid-May. ( we booked everything with our Guide Rosa about 6.5 months ahead of time) She sent us an App called UnMapped and we had full itinerary, contact names, phone numbers of drivers, tour guides, our main contact email and text through What's App. So I never felt lost or misguided. They took care of us from the moment we got off the airplane in Madrid, to a speed train to Seville, daily tours and guides and then finally our driver to pick us up and get us to the Malaga airport.  With 6 people in our party, this made things so easy so we could simply enjoy our time together on a family vacation in Spain. We had an awesome journey to the southern beauty of Spain's Andalucia region. Cities include Seville, Ronda, Mijas, Malaga, Marbella, Granada & a layover in Portugal's Lisbon. We used Zicasso - a travel agency with Rosa. I highly recommend this company. So many ways we enjoyed the vibe of Spain- from guided walking city tours, Tapas & Flamenco, wine tasting at a Vineyard ( the Flamenco museum and show was absolutely stunning!) A visit to the moorish cultural palace & fortress Alhambra in Granada, variety of cathedrals, Picasso museum, the Royal Alcazar Castle in Seville and a winery visit to Chinchilla in the rolling hills of Ronda. Sophia our daughter even surprised us with a special boat cruise on the Guadalquivir River in Seville with a champagne toast! Our feet are tired and hearts are full! What an adventure! Don't stumble around when you take a trip- hire a Guide to do it right! Bravo to Rosa and her entire team that Guided us- drivers included- were phenomenal!!!  5 plus Stars!!!
