Detailed Description
Spain is the cradle of international wine, its history of cultivation stretching back three to four millennia and the country continuing to revel in experimentation. There are more acres of vines and vineyards here than any other country in the world, a testament to Spain's number one obsession. Even on the arid plateaus of Central Spain you'll find farmers feverishly cultivating. But this handcrafted Spain wine tour isn't interested in vino de mesa (table wine), it's focused on the country's finest winelands and most exclusive vineyards. Moving from Madrid to Barcelona, this unique vacation explores Spain's eight most respected and revered wine regions, including La Rioja, Priorat, Penedes, and Ribera del Duero. It's vintage VIP tasting all the way as you discover 18th century chateaus, medieval farmhouses, innovative flavors, and a rich diversity of grapes.
Your Madrid welcome glimpses at what is to come. Sample the finest from nine regions at one of Madrid's most renowned wine merchants, then sit down to a nine course Spanish tasting menu at an almost mythical traditional restaurant. Days two and three explore the finest grapes grown in the less than ideal conditions of Central Spain. Meet winemakers who are becoming the darlings of international wine connoisseurs as you explore the regions of Castile-La Mancha, and Rueda and Toro. Throughout this tour, all transfers are by luxury Mercedes with a knowledgeable driver guide. Hand selected restaurants complete the gastronomic feast as they sensually showcase the eclecticism of Spanish cuisine; expect medieval banquets, Michelin fine dining, atmospheric traditional restaurants, and gourmet organic produce.
Northeastern Spain's sheltered slopes are where the country's world-famous reds have their roots. A compact area of valleys is home to the distinct regions of La Rioja, Ribera del Duero, Navarra, and Txacoli (famous for its dry white). Spend four days in this charming area, sleeping in quaint walled towns and wine tasting at the country's most internationally acclaimed vineyards. Enjoy vintages at famous producers as well as exclusive tasting sessions at tiny farmhouses that have been delighting the wine community for centuries. The overnight stops are wonderfully atmospheric, featuring four of Spain's most traditional and well preserved medieval towns, including Pamplona and San Sebastian.
On day eight you fly to Barcelona where this wine tour culminates with Mediterranean flavors. Penedes and Priorat are the outstanding regions here. Breezy mountain slopes and unusual soil have helped craft magnificent cavas and unique earth flavored reds. As always, the exact daily itinerary will be tailored to your tastes and specifications as your guide selects from a variety of acclaimed vineyards. Take day trips into these two regions then spend your evenings in the heart of historic Barcelona, surrounded by ambient streets and the unusual architecture that inspired the world. The city's best restaurants add further excitement to the tongue. Throughout the tour, your guide will assist in boxing and posting your wine purchases, ensuring the best of Spain dominates your cellar for years to come.

My family of 6 people (all adults) have taken this trip to northern Spain: Barcelona, Bilbao, Pamplona, San Sebastian, Biarritz, Monserrat. I am most satisfied with this travel agency and our tour company. The drivers and guides were knowledgeable and kind. The professional service we received will be always memorable.
The restaurant recommendations were also very welcome. Apart from the Michelin-starred restaurants whose reservations were made by me, the other restaurants recommended by our travel company were all on the mark as being very good.
I will be writing a separate review on Tripadvisor. Thank you for a great trip.

I cannot say enough fabulous things about the luxury tour company. It exceeded every expectation my husband and I had for customer service, care, attention to detail and planning our 12-day tour through Spain in mid-January.
We are seasoned world travelers and have been on many amazing and wonderful adventures. We've had great experiences with many tour companies, but none compare to the level of expertise and excellence of this tour company.
We simply told our trip planners that we wanted to go to Spain, and didn't know exactly where or what to do or see. They took it from there -- all by email, though they certainly were available any time by phone had we wanted to talk. We prefer email. They asked about our interests, what level of accommodations we wanted, how physically active we wanted a tour to be. They then emailed a sample itinerary. We tweeked it some. And voila. They planned a trip for us that was magical and memorable on all levels.
We were greeted at every stop by a driver and taken wherever our schedule directed. All of our plane and train travel in Spain was arranged. All we needed to do was show up. When we arrived in Barcelona, as well as Madrid a week later, there was a taxi strike. We worried how we would get to a soccer (football) match in Barcelona. Our young woman guide for two days simply said, "Don't worry about it. I am your eyes and ears, and I will take care of it." And she did. A driver picked us up, delivered us to the stadium, and waited for us at a nearby location until after the match, when he ferried us back to our hotel.
On our day in Barcelona that was planned for all things Gaudi, it was raining quite hard. Our guide that day did some quick thinking and as I told him, took lemons and made lemonade. He and our driver took us to a small company town outside of Barcelona that Gaudi had designed. In fact, the small church there that he designed served as a first impression of his large cathedral in Barcelona. Then our guide took to a former hospital that exhibited fascinating architecture and history. By the time we finished touring it, and following a delightful lunch, the rain had let up enough for us to visit more Gaudi designs.
Our guides arranged for us to visit a private Gastronomic Society in San Sebastian, which was so much fun, and our lunch was outstanding. They also got us into the private home/office/studio of two art restorers in Sevilla. After the duo showed us the type of art (old paintings and statuary) they restored, and how they did it in their studio, they invited us to their personal upstairs apartment for some refreshments and lively conversation about Spain, Sevilla, politics and food. So delightful and interesting.
Our entire trip was like this. Each and every guide at every stop was bright, knowledgeable and personable. Our trip planners laid pearls here and there along the way -- small delights and pleasures -- that surprised us and kept us totally engaged in the history, culture, food, wine, art and joy of Spain.
This tour company is 100% responsible for making our trip the amazing adventure it was. We look forward to returning next year. This tour company will plan our trip through Northwestern and Southern Spain and then to Portugal.
If you're interested in traveling anywhere in Spain or Portugal, and you want luxury and the trip of a lifetime to deposit into your memory bank to warm you when you're too old to walk the cobblestones, call or email this tour company immediately. Or email me. I'm very happy to share more details of our heavenly trip.
P.S. Our 12-day holiday covered: Barcelona; San Sebastian; Bilbao; Sevilla; Cordoba; Madrid; Toledo. We took two flights and one high-speed train during that time.

Had a fantastic time on our trip to Spain in September 2014. We visited Barcelona, Madrid, Seville and Nerja. The only thing I would have done differently perhaps is spend a bit less time in the cities of Barcelona and Madrid, as there was not as much to see here. I would have opted to take a few days instead and traveled north to the Basque region of Spain around San Sebastian. The modes of travel (trains) and hotels were outstanding. The tours were outstanding as well. The amount of free time was very adequate, as we were able to do what we chose to do much of the time. Overall an excellent trip!

Our trip itinerary was titled “Memorable Trip to Spain” by our travel company representative Ana. Her planning and coordination of our excursions, car rental, hotels and some meals were flawless. Everything was planned perfectly and went like clockwork. The excursion guides were local to the area and were extremely knowledgeable about the history, customs, and interesting facts of the area we were in. Being local allowed us to see sites far beyond the normal tourists. For example, at a winery in St. Emilion, France we were able to have a private tour in one of the oldest wineries in the area with the owner of the vineyard. After the tour he also showed us through his house.
Ana and her team were able to answer questions we had immediately. We questioned how to drop the rental car off in Barcelona and not only did they send directions, but they also sent a picture of the facility. While driving from San Sebastian to Alquezar we asked for lunch stop recommendations and they directed us to a beautiful location on a lake for lunch, something we would have never found on our own.
After our initial contact with Ana, we emailed and talked on the phone. We established a budget, a rough itinerary of stops, a rough duration, and the class of hotels we wanted. From there Ana put together a list of excursions at each stop and a list of 3 or 4 hotels that we could choose from. Once everything was decided on, she also gave us a list of recommended restaurants we could review and make reservations for our evening meals that were on our account. Finally, about a week before our trip she called to go over the itinerary and answer any questions we had. The entire process was simple and easy thanks to Ana and her team.
Finally, if you have not already noticed, we had a fantastic and memorable time on out trip to France and Spain. Thank you again for putting this together for us.
