Detailed Description

The Galapagos archipelago is scarcely believable, both above and below the water. Massive schools of hammerhead sharks circle above the strange colors of endemic fish. Blue-footed boobies dance to attract a mate, hopping from foot to foot to display their azure appendages. Manta rays and Galapagos sharks cruise across dive sites while prehistoric reptiles hang out on walking trails. Each island and dive site is unique, formed from its nutrient-rich volcanic soil and the convergence of three distinct ocean currents. Nothing is at it seems and is unlike anything you'll find anywhere else on the planet. Consider reading for yourself other travelers' breathtaking accounts in their Galapagos Islands tour reviews.

This encompassing Galapagos Islands wildlife tour with scuba diving mixes the very best of the archipelago's sites, combining four days of scuba diving with five days of land-based excursions. It's an itinerary for certified divers who wish to discover the complete Galapagos world, rather than merely the sites beneath the water. Because while sea turtles and giant tortoises make for wonderful memories, the archipelago's diversity means that seeing them both is far more emblematic. On the land-based excursions, there's also multiple opportunities to kayak and snorkel, helping bring the delights of sea lions and penguins to your marine exploration. With a luxury Santa Cruz hotel as your base, the whole of the Central Galapagos is explored. And you don't need to go far. Iconic seabirds, strange iguanas, boisterous sea lions, and glorious beaches are within a few steps of the hotel.

You'll make two dives at each of four iconic dive sites. Mosquera Islet offers an eclectic introduction to the marine world while Daphne Minor brings a haven of endemic species and unusual characters. At Cousin Rocks, you'll enjoy the juxtaposition of macro life in the coral covered rocks and giant creatures soaring the depths. Then Gordon Rocks provides the famed sightings of hammerhead schools and huge rays. But this is the Galapagos, so regular encounters with the big sharks and rays is a consistent part of the itinerary. Think of barracuda schools, giant sea turtles, tiger snake eels, eagle rays, sting rays, white-tipped reef sharks, moray eels, and the abundance of hammerheads as you dive the famous sites of the Central Galapagos.

Back on land, daily excursions by yacht and road explore the archipelago's idiosyncrasy. North Seymour is a remarkable breeding ground for boobies and two frigate species. Bartolome is all about walking on a Mars-like terrain and marveling at the relics of volcanic history. Giant tortoises cover the Santa Cruz highlands while endemic reptiles and sea lions greet you at the beach of Santa Fe Island. And just like the eclectic dive sites, strict national park regulations ensure that these sites are free of other tourists. Visits are scheduled so only one group at a time is exploring the site, meaning no diver bubbles interrupting your view and no extra footsteps spoiling the mating scenes of seabirds. Throughout the whole itinerary, you get an exclusive private viewing of the Galapagos world.

Galapagos / Ecuador Tour Review: Quito, Baltra Island, Puerto Ayora, Bartolome Island, Wildlife, Snorkeling, One-Week Trip

The Quito tour was very nice. Hotels in Quito and Galapagos (Puerto Ayora) were excellent.

After Quito, it went downhill. I was never given any contact information of the company there or the names of the tour guides. I had no idea of where I was having dinner each night (I thought it was at the hotel but the tour guide on the 1st day told me I was not eating at the hotel).

I did not know that when I arrived in Baltra (Galapagos) the tour was starting right from the airport. My water bottle and swimsuit, hat were all packed in my suitcase since I thought we would stop at the hotel first. The guide did not have any water for me and I was thirsty.

I had told our agent that I get very seasick but I didn't mind boats to go from Puerto Ayora to the different islands but that I would not sit on a rocking boat while others snorkeled, I said I was ok sitting on the beach while others snorkeled.

He assured me that he checked with the tour company and they said that they would be snorkeling from shore.

I told him my main goal was to see the giant tortoises, iguanas, and blue-footed boobies.

On the 2nd day, the boat ride to Bartolome was 2 1/2 hours one way. The seas were very rough and the main thing about Bartolome was its beauty. I opted out of the tour.

Ecuador & Galapagos Island Travel Review, Luxury Anniversary Trip, Santa Cruz Island, Sombrero Chino & Bartolome Islands, Quito
We traveled to Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands in celebration of our 25th wedding anniversary. It was a 10-day adventure planned and arranged in cooperation with the travel designer and this travel agency, and we had some of the best times of our lives on this trip.We spent several days in Quito, including a fantastic day trip to Cotopaxi National Park, and wewere six days cruising the Galapagos islands, including an extended 2-day stay on the island of Santa Cruz based at the magnificent secluded hotel. Our guide in Quito was just fantastic; warm, knowledgeable, enthusiastic and incredibly reliable. We saw and learned things we would never have experienced on our own, and an additional bonus was being greeted by a travel agency representative at the Quito Airport, who escorted us through customs in minutes! The cruise our travel designer arranged for us on the Santa Cruz ship was wonderful; great boat, great staff and a great group of naturalists guiding us around the islands. Our additional stay on Santa Cruz Island included a fantastic day trip to Bartolome and China Hat islands on a beautiful yacht, and a visit to a huge lava cave that was right on our hotel property! On the way back to Quito from the Galapagos, our guide drove us to a music store so that we could purchase a Churango, a plucked-string instrument popular in Ecuador and Bolivia, that my husband fell in love with while we were partying to the music of a local Cumbia band on the ship. That was special service, indeed. We can't say enough good things about the travel designer and his crew at this agency; this is the only company you want to deal with if you're planning a trip to the Galapagos. It's a true VIP experience, and one you'll never forget!!!!!

Travel Review: Galapagos Island & Ecuador, Quito City Tour, Snorkeling, Swimming with Marine Life
Excellent city tour of Quito. Knowledgeable guide in the Galápagos Islands. Great snorkeling. Then the coronavirus caused the second half of our trip to be cancelled. Didn’t get to go to the Amazon. Couldn’t even go see the land tortoises on our last day.  At least we got out of Ecuador before they closed the border!

Galapagos / Ecuador Travel Review: Quito, Cotopaxi, Cloud Forest, Local Cuisine, 10-Day Tour

We had a very nice trip to Quito, Ecuador, and the Galapagos Islands. The people in Quito were very friendly and we felt very safe. We were initially concerned based on what we saw in the media, but Zicasso's travel agency checked with the hotel and guides, and said all was fine. We are glad we listened and went on the trip.

Our guide was excellent and we spent four days touring around Quito, Cotopaxi, the cloud forest, and Otavalo Market. Then we flew to Galapagos and went on a four-night cruise. It was an amazing experience seeing sea turtles, sea lions, penguins, sharks, and giant tortoises. The landscapes were beautiful and we got some great pictures on our nature walks. The crew and guide in the Galapagos were top-notch. The meals on the boat were fabulous as well. Make sure you are physically able to do long walks, sometimes on rough terrain, and go snorkeling, as they kept us busy multiple times per day. We highly recommend visiting Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands.
