Quito - Arriving in Ecuador's Quaint Capital
Quito is the ideal starting point for a Galapagos vacation. Flights to the islands only leave from two cities, and this one also happens to be the first-ever UNESCO World Heritage Site. Starting in Quito inserts two days of culture and colonial architecture into a deluxe itinerary. You'll be picked up at the airport and transferred to a luxury hotel located in the old city's central square. This building was the home of one of Spain's first conquistadors, and it's been recently revamped to reflect colonial pomp and indulgence. The Presidential Palace is next door, cute cafes line the square, and there are elegant views onto the domes of Quito's old churches. The rest of the day is at leisure, and the hotel's restaurant is one of the best in the city.

Detailed Description
This handcrafted luxury vacation takes you on the finest of Galapagos tours from Quito, Ecuador. Spend the first two days immersed in the first ever World Heritage Site, sleeping in the converted colonial townhouse of a 17th-century conquistador. Then fly to the archipelago for an 8-day Galapagos tour on a deluxe yacht. Cruise to the isolated western islands and marvel at strange characters like flightless cormorants. As whales follow the boat, you continue to red beaches filled with sea lions, lush highlands covered in giant tortoises, and the nesting sites of rare seabirds. With eight days, you can fully indulge in the surreal and strange wildlife, whether that's on walks across volcanic islands or snorkeling and glass-bottomed boat rides above vivid reefs. With this deluxe Galapagos tour from Quito, you immerse yourself in Ecuador's two premier attractions, mixing the cultural wonder with an unforgettable natural realm.
Ecuador's capital is quick to imbue its charms, especially when your hotel is part of the World Heritage area. From the private balcony, there's a glorious view of Plaza de la Independencia, the presidential palace, and late-16th-century Moorish domes. With its colorful courtyards and serene lanes, this old city provides an easy mix of relaxation and cultural exploration. Churches are completely coated in gold, snow-capped volcanoes twinkle in the distance, and the fresh scents of coffee and cacao mingle on the street. You'll enjoy a full-day guided excursion of the important historical sights before flying to your Galapagos Islands tour from Quito on day three.
The first Galapagos inhabitants were reptiles who arrived on floating trees uprooted from the mainland. Two million years of evolution later and these reptiles are as bizarre as they come, including 550-pound giant tortoises, lava lizards, and endemic marine iguanas that survive off salt water. These are just the start of your wildlife adventure. Board a luxury yacht and head into the Western Galapagos, stopping off at the seabird nesting grounds of North Seymour. Admire the hopping antics of blue-footed boobies and watch magnificent frigates stand proudly with their inflated throat-sacks. It's an ideal introduction to the natural splendor, one that's combined with an elegant first evening on the spacious yacht.
Over the next eight days, you visit ten different islands, each with its particular landscape and wildlife highlights. Discover the nesting sites of sea turtles, get intimate with endemic land iguanas, kayak with sea lions, and watch flamingos wade through brackish lagoons. The itinerary unveils the eclectic splendor of the islands, and there's a wonderful paradox to enjoy. On the one hand, the Galapagos is amongst the planet's greatest wilderness realms. At the same time, the yacht allows you to explore in modern luxury. Adventure blends with tranquility, like when gourmet ceviche is served when you return from a glass-bottomed boat excursion. And there's always a sublime viewing area of the Pacific from the sundeck.

Wonderful trip!! We flew into Quito spent 2 nights then we flew to San Cristoble and went on board the boat we chartered for 5 days. For 5 days we explored many of the Galapagos islands. We then arrived on Santa Cruz Island and spent 3 nights there. We flew back to Quito for 2 days and from there we returned home. Our trip planner was absolutely great, she kept me informed of any changes, called to check on us during our trip and made the whole process a breeze! The hotels she booked were perfect. Our guides were very knowledgeable and engaging, they were very sweet and accommodating, went out of their way to make sure we were happy and comfortable. Our excursions were the best! I can not say one bad thing or I would not change any of it, it was a perfect trip!

The Quito tour was very nice. Hotels in Quito and Galapagos (Puerto Ayora) were excellent.
After Quito, it went downhill. I was never given any contact information of the company there or the names of the tour guides. I had no idea of where I was having dinner each night (I thought it was at the hotel but the tour guide on the 1st day told me I was not eating at the hotel).
I did not know that when I arrived in Baltra (Galapagos) the tour was starting right from the airport. My water bottle and swimsuit, hat were all packed in my suitcase since I thought we would stop at the hotel first. The guide did not have any water for me and I was thirsty.
I had told our agent that I get very seasick but I didn't mind boats to go from Puerto Ayora to the different islands but that I would not sit on a rocking boat while others snorkeled, I said I was ok sitting on the beach while others snorkeled.
He assured me that he checked with the tour company and they said that they would be snorkeling from shore.
I told him my main goal was to see the giant tortoises, iguanas, and blue-footed boobies.
On the 2nd day, the boat ride to Bartolome was 2 1/2 hours one way. The seas were very rough and the main thing about Bartolome was its beauty. I opted out of the tour.

Wonderful trip—we left on Feb 29 & back on Mar 9. Obviously, during that time period, the coronavirus escalated dramatically. I took my son, daughter-in-law, & 3 grandchildren as my gift to them.
This was really last minute as we had talked about Sicily but for some reason, decided not to go there. Had we booked a trip there I would have cancelled as Italy was then in the mid-stages of this awful pandemic. (Initially), 2 years ago when I found Zicasso, I called your company to find out more about it. I remember saying I hate to waste someone’s time if you send me 2 or 3 people. Whoever I talked with said that I should go with the person I felt most comfortable with. With last fall’s trip to Spain, I could have gone with either person. This time I had a much higher comfort level with both of these specialists than with the other company I was connected with. I’m sure she was fine but they stuck with my budget more. Ultimately, I upgraded the hotel, ship, & added 2 nights when we were in Mashpi but they were able to get really good prices and there was no pressure to upgrade. Our specialists answered questions promptly and courteously & had suggestions based on our responses. Both specialists checked in every place we were to make certain things were ok. I had some hesitations about flying into Quito because of its altitude and my asthma, so after having the whole thing planned out for us, I asked if we could do a Plan B & I would fly into Guayaquil & meet the rest of my family in Baltra to go on to the Galápagos Islands. After speaking with my pulmonologist, I decided to stay with the original plan.)
This travel company was happy to make the changes as needed. They had someone meet us & take us through customs. For me, GOOD SERVICE trumps everything. We loved our 4-star hotel in Quito( so glad we upgraded!) and our other accommodation selections. I only wish the ship could include all gratuities as they do in other services. I know I pay more upfront, but it’s just so much easier. I tipped what was recommended. I also like small ( resorts, hotels, etc. ) Our cruise has only 48 passengers but on or trip there were only 13 of us so we did have lots of help with the naturalists. In fact, all 3 places we had excellent food and service.
Forgot to add that our private guide for Quito that the tour company arranged for us, was one of the 3 best I’ve had—the top three were all Equally outstanding.
I know this answer is long but I thought so much of them that I wanted to mention them & for you to know my background for it to all be on perspective. We ended up splitting my AX Platinum fee. I know small businesses have a large percentage to pay. But this was how much I liked them. I feel a little shallow writing this but when this nightmare is over, I hope we will all get to travel again.

We traveled to Ecuador last month, with a week in the Galapagos, 5 days in the Amazon, and several days in Quito. Arrangements for travel were made through this travel agent who is located in Quito. Every phase of the trip was perfect, from his help before on arrangements and planning, choosing an Amazon lodge, day guides in Quito and Santa Cruz Island, recommendations for hotels, and transfers that were always there at the proper time at the hotels, airports and docks. Our travel agent always responded promptly to emailed questions and issues. He met personally with us when we arrived in Quito and went over our itinerary, and was always available by email or phone, although we really didn't have any problems to deal with. We travel a lot and have worked with many other agencies to plan trips. This travel company is now highest on our list and we would highly recommend their services for any travelers in Ecuador and South America.
