Nature Lover's Tour of Japan

Accessed from Takamatsu Port, Shodoshima Island will spotlight the unrivaled allure of the uncrowded golden sands and majestic marine views that sweep Japan’s isles’ untouched expanses. The Shodoshima Olive Park is a manicured garden overflowing with blooming flowers that will catch your eyes in their dazzling colors as you peruse the peaceful pathways winding through its luxuriant lawns. Your destination, Awa, is a city pinned between the bucolic scenery that veils the fabled Iya Valley. Before settling into your accommodation flanked by the vivid foliage, you may choose to delve into the soba-making, traditional Japanese noodles, or washi-making, traditional Japanese paper, traditions that form key cultural components of Awa heritage. Afterward, you may stretch your legs and climb the rolling hills of Mount Tsurugi on gently sloping trails leading to panoramic countryside vistas.

Today, you will escape the city as the sun illuminates Awa to witness the geological wonders that compose Iya Valley’s landscape. To cherish the incredible wilderness abounding in the valley, you will partake in a few absorbing experiences past celebrated cultural landmarks to beloved environmental highlights. Comfortably seated in a traditional boat, you will calmly cruise across the glistening river under the fairytale Kazura Bridge, a crossing constructed entirely out of wood and fastened together by vines. The scenic journey will culminate at the Oboke Gorge, a tranquil display of mother earth in its purest and most magnificent form.

You will begin your expedition back to where it all began, Takamatsu, today after tucking into a steamy bowl of Japanese broth for breakfast this morning. But, your voyage will not be straight to the city as you decide to make a detour through the Kurozo Marshlands or to revel in a thrilling river rafting experience down the rapids of Yoshinogawa River. Either way, you will be besotted with the staggering nature that surrounds you before you continue to Hashikura Temple, a centuries-old spiritual complex poised amongst the luxuriant mountain landscape.

While your time in Japan will be coming to its end today, you will have a few hours in the morning to soak up the wilderness splendors sprinkled throughout the cityscape of Takamatsu before you make your way to the airport.
