Fado is not a sad style of music; it is an expression of loss crafted with exceptional beauty. Fado has its origins in Alfama, which is a neighborhood in central Lisbon. After being greeted at the airport, you will be transferred to your hotel in Baixa, which is a central and convenient location to enjoy your time in the city. The afternoon will be at your leisure before a guide accompanies you to a fado dinner and performance in one of Lisbon’s oldest music venues. Detailed Description

Lisbon is great for senior travelers because it is such an immersive travel destination. History and culture is not something to read about in a museum. Rather, it is something to live out along cobblestone streets. Lisbon is a city that holds many secrets, reserving its best for those who are willing to look beyond the standard route. Exceptional food and wine are part of the everyday schedule, especially when local guides know where to take you. With a full week, you can really uncover Lisbon’s style and highlights.

This one-week Lisbon itinerary is handcrafted for senior travelers with a leisurely pace and minimal walking. Private guides will lead your journey each day. All of them are specialists, so somebody who loves Byron will guide you in Sintra, and a local chef will show you the city’s food scene. From Muscat wine to Portuguese fishing villages, easy day trips will reveal more of the country. Over seven days, you will feel completely immersed in Lisbon’s atmosphere. You will find a city that is safe and easy to maneuver that loves it when visitors seek to look a little beyond the tourist track.

After landing in Lisbon, the first day will be at your leisure before an evening of fado music in the neighborhood in which it originated. You will spend day two with Byron and the Moors in Sintra before enjoying the leisurely tones of Cascais. A historical tour will have you exploring Belem and Baixa on day three. Day four will be very relaxed and will include a leisurely trip to Setubal and the home of Muscat. Here, you can meet with winemakers and explore the distinctive dessert wine. Obidos, Nazare, and tradition dining at a Portuguese fishing village are just a few of the immersive highlights of day five. Then, food will carry you away and complete your one week in Lisbon. Food is just one of the many reasons that you will want to return to this wonderful city.

Portugal Vacation Review: Lisbon, Algarve, Porto, Douro Valley, Food Tour, Boat Ride, Wine Pairing, E-Bike Ride, 13 Nights

We recently returned from two fabulous weeks in Portugal. This was the first time we had used an agency to help plan, book, and manage a trip. We could not be more pleased and I highly doubt we will ever go back to handling all of that ourselves.

Zicasso’s travel specialist and his team (most notably our guide) were incredible. The travel specialist listened to our hopes for this trip (as well as what we like to do when traveling) and put together an awesome itinerary. Our main stops were Lisbon, the Algarve, Porto, and the Douro Valley.

Major highlights included four-hour walking and food tours in Lisbon and Porto (the first of which was the day we arrived from the United States. I didn’t think we could do it, but it was the best way to start our trip), the tile museum and tile workshop, a boat ride through the cave formations in the Algarve, a wonderful farm-to-table lunch and wine pairing under a 2,000-year-old olive tree in the Algarve, and an 18-mile e-bike ride in the mountains of the Douro (I definitely didn’t think we could do it).

The sites, the food, the hotels! We did so many things and had so many unforgettable experiences, but in the end, it was the kindness and generosity of all the people we met that will stay with us.

Portugal Family Tour Review: Lisbon, Sintra, Evora, Porto, Algarve, Madeira, Douro Valley, Cooking Class, Tile-Painting Workshop, 13 Nights

The travel agent from Zicasso's tour company planned for my family of four the most spectacular and luxurious two-week trip around Portugal. We traveled to and enjoyed the highlights of Lisbon, the romantic architecture in Sintra, the incredible history of Évora, the beautiful coastline of the Algarve, the laid-back atmosphere and gorgeous scenery of Madeira, the beautiful, historical, bustling city of Porto, and the stunning scenery of the Douro Valley.

The travel agent's suggestions and bookings were all perfectly aligned with what we envisioned and the accommodations booked were all beautifully appointed and family-oriented – five-star hotels that catered to the entire family, with indoor pools and kids greeted with backpacks and toys at the door, and nightly treats on pillows.

The tour guides booked were all very knowledgeable and kind. They were patient with my two- and four-year-olds, and taught us all so many new, amazing things.

Every day was a highlight, but I would say my girls really enjoyed the tile painting as well as the pastel de nata-making workshops.

My husband and I really enjoyed Évora and Sintra, and truly seeing the beauty and history of it all.

We absolutely fell in love with Portugal, the culture, and the food. My only regret is not having more time so we could’ve seen the Azores as well and stayed even longer.

We so look forward to this travel agent planning us another perfect vacation in the near future!

Portugal Travel Review: Sintra, Nazare, Ericeira, Arrabida National Park, Lisbon, Hiking, Sailing, 1 Week

My trip to Portugal was absolutely amazing. Zicasso’s travel company went above and beyond my expectations. The itinerary was amazing and all the guides were incredible. Everything was on time, the accommodations they booked were five-star and in great locations, and enough time was built in for me to be able to explore on my own. I feel the cost was well worth the value. Should I ever go back to Portugal, I would certainly use this travel company again, and I would highly recommend them to anyone looking to have a great experience on a Portugal vacation.

Portugal Family Trip Review: Lisbon, Douro Valley, Food Tour, Fado Experience, Boat Ride, Cooking Class, Winery, 9-Night Tour

Zicasso's travel agent was very easy to work with. She put together a great itinerary for our family vacation. She listened to our interests and also included some unique experiences for us that we would never have been able to set up on our own. She was also very quick to take care of some miscommunication at one of our hotels when we got to Lisbon and quickly got it resolved for us. Her communication was great and she took good care of us.

Portugal Tour Review: Hiking, Boat Ride, Winery, Fado Dinner, Lisbon, Douro Valley, 12 Nights

We took our fourth private tour to Portugal using Zicasso. The travel company we selected was superb from the day we arrived to the day we departed. We received personal care at the highest level.

The vehicles were top of class, so we were always comfortable in transiting between locations. The guides/drivers were knowledgeable and friendly. They had a well-thought-out itinerary that lasted 12 days and each lodging was six-star in every way. We stayed in a restored nunnery, and several other amazing places.

The company arranged a wonderful nature hike along the coast with a naturalist and a boat ride along the Douro River, along with a visit to a winery, which had a gourmet lunch for us, combined with the wine tasting. At the end, in Lisbon, we went to a fado dinner at a Michelin-star restaurant, with amazing performers and food. If you want carefree luxury travel, they will hit the mark!

Spain, Portugal Trip Review: Lisbon, Porto, San Sebastian, Barcelona, Seamless Travel, Wine, 10 Nights

My wife and I have been lucky enough to travel to many places around the world, but our April 2025 journey organized by Zicasso's tour company was easily one of the best. Our agent and her team thought of every detail. All we had to do was show up and enjoy these two beautiful countries!

We went to Four cities: Lisbon, Porto, San Sebastián, and Barcelona. The itineraries were thoughtfully planned to give us great experiences without wearing us out too much. And the guides in each city were fun, knowledgeable, and engaging. The transportation was always easy and on time, and the hotels were top-notch.
