Detailed Description

Romance flutters down the lanes of Barcelona, and it weaves a path along the cobblestone, entering tapas and cocktail bars along the way. Down the Mediterranean it goes, as yachts wade in the harbor as golden beaches cascade onwards. Out of the city, this romance seeks some privacy, and you will be able to find it on mountains beneath the stars and vineyards that are hidden from the world. Barcelona is a city that can morph around your mood and there is always another place where you will find the romantic atmosphere take hold. One night that may be an Arabic spa, and the next night it could be Palau de la Musica Catalana where Spanish music echoes around the finest of all Modernist structures.

Handcrafted with the most romantic experiences Barcelona has to offer, this ten-day vacation is designed just for two. There is plenty of time to explore the city at your leisure, from getting lost in Barri Gotic to drinking cocktails on rooftop bars and spending time at the beach. The experiences are varied and designed to be fun, including a day trip to the Penedes wine region, hot air ballooning above Catalonia, a Spanish cooking class, and nighttime tapas. Restaurant reservations ensure you get a table at Barcelona’s most special places to dine while a private picnic provides another angle on the city.

Touch down and overcome the travel fatigue by spending your first evening in an Arabic spa. Spend day two on a private boat tour, sailing the Catalan coast with drinks and snacks before dining at the incredibly intimate Tintoreria Dontell. You will be amazed at the entrance to this fine dining restaurant is disguised as a launderette. Get to know the old city as you walk hand in hand through Barri Gotic on day three, which is followed by a hands-on Spanish cooking class that takes you through tapas and paella. Food is always a highlight in Barcelona, and on day four you will have a picnic that overlooks the city before some free time which could be perfect for the beach.

A Barcelona vacation is not complete without Gaudi and Montaner, which are the great exponents of Catalan art nouveau. Tour the essential architecture on day five before getting lost in the warren-like lanes of El Born on your tapas tour. Five days will have gone by in a flash but you are only halfway, and there is plenty to explore beyond the city. Visit Penedes on day six, which is the home of Cava sparkling wine that will provide an idyllic place to make a toast and sample some of Spain’s best white wines. On day seven, you sail above Catalonia in a hot air balloon, perhaps with a little street music to serenade you into the evening.

The final two days are left free, and by then you will have some personal favorites within Barcelona. That could be a quiet beach like Bogatell, the atmospheric corridors of La Boqueria, or a sunset view from Montjuic. On day eight, a driver takes you to Montserrat for a special mountaintop dinner beneath the stars. For day nine, you will experience a Spanish guitar concert in the finest Modernist building of them all: Palau de la Musica Catalana. All of this will be topped off by your handpicked hotel where there is a private swimming pool on your terrace, plus all the seclusion you need for romance to thrive. Extend your time in this remarkable region with additional Spain travel ideas.

Spain Tour Review: Llafranc, Costa Brava, Girona, Barcelona, Dali Museum, Sagrada Familia, Park Guell, Montserrat, Tapas Tour, Hike, Winery, Flamenco, Cooking Class, 8-Day Trip

This trip was the best vacation my husband and I have ever taken! Zicasso's travel designer was excellent; he was very knowledgeable and planned the perfect itinerary. I would book another trip with him in a heartbeat! I told him we wanted to go to Barcelona and the activities we wanted to do. He was spot-on with the initial itinerary and we only needed to make minor adjustments based on additional recommendations he had.

The entire trip was very well planned out and everything went off perfectly. I wish I could do this trip all over again!

We stayed the first three nights in Llafranc, Costa Brava, which is a very lovely seaside town that our travel designer suggested. The hotel there was beautiful, pristine, and right on the beach. We went for a wonderful hike, took a day trip to the Dalí Museum, and had a wine tasting at a smaller vineyard that he suggested rather than a large, touristy one. Here, we had a private tour and tasting with the host. On our way to Barcelona we had a tour of Girona, where it was very interesting to see and learn about the history. We loved the hotel in Barcelona. It was in a great location, with many good restaurants nearby, and was also beautiful and pristine. The first night in Barcelona we saw a flamenco show that was incredible and the next day we saw Park Güell and La Sagrada Família. In the evening, we did a tapas tour through five restaurants that was so much fun. The next day, we had a cooking class, which was one of our favorite activities of the trip. The last day, we took a bus trip out to Montserrat, which is well worth seeing and only about an hour outside the city.

I was able to be in communication with our agent throughout the trip. He was always available for questions and also gave us recommendations for restaurants and bars to go to. He also made dinner/lunch reservations as needed.

All of the private guides that were hired were excellent: our guide who did our hike, our guide who took us to the Dalí Museum and Girona, and our guide who showed us Park Güell and La Família Sagrada. They were all so knowledgeable and enjoyable to be with. Even the guides when doing group activities were amazing: our guide who did the cooking class, our guide who took us to Montserrat, and our guide who did the tapas tour.

I appreciated that although our itinerary was busy, our travel designer made sure there was still free time to explore on our own. He was a pleasure to work with and made this vacation so special. The whole process of planning was very easy because of his expertise. I will definitely use him and the tour company for future trips!

Spain Tour Review: Baths, Flamenco, Guitar Concert, 10-Day Trip

I dealt with our travel agent to plan our trip for two couples. I knew roughly the locations we wanted to visit, but with her suggestions and recommendations, our visit to several cities in Spain was enhanced and made the trip even more memorable.

Needless to say, all guides and drivers were punctual and the guides were very knowledgeable and flexible to our needs. I would highly recommend Zicasso's travel company.

Spain, Portugal Tour Review: Lisbon, San Sebastian, Cooking Class, Coimbra, 19-Day Trip

The itinerary was very well laid out, covering all of our points and activities of interest. We received frequent follow-ups and check-ins from Zicasso's travel agency during the trip.

We had two unforeseen disruptions: a nationwide power outage in Spain and a canceled connecting flight in Barcelona. In both cases, there were timely follow-ups and prompt emergency hotel and transportation bookings. Very impressive customer service.

Spain Family Travel Review: Madrid, Toledo, Seville, Cordoba, Barcelona, Cathedrals, Mosques, Cooking Class, Tapas, Biking, 9 Nights

The recommended activities were amazing for our trip.

We started in Madrid, then went to Toledo, Seville, Córdoba, and Barcelona. Highlights for my kids (15, 13, and 13) were the cathedrals, mosque, cooking class, walking tapas tour and e-bike tour.

All of our drivers and tour guides were prompt, knowledgeable, and listened to our preferences.

The hotels in Madrid and Seville were perfection and located close to major areas.

The only reason I gave the trip four instead of five stars was that the travel company made a mistake booking our hotel in Barcelona. We found out the night before that our hotel was switched and the new hotel was not in the best area and far from major attractions. The company did offer to reimburse us for taxis and sent us a gift and apology letter. However, I would have preferred to book my own hotel in Barcelona but the day before it was too late for me to research and change the hotel. That particular experience marred what was an otherwise fantastic trip.
