Barcelona - Airport Arrival & Dinner in Plaça Reial

Breezy sea saltwater will waft in your direction as you step off the plane in Barcelona. You will make your way through customs and meet your private ground transportation before speeding down the coastal highway as you look out on the iridescent waves of the Mediterranean. Your transfer will weave in and out of busied traffic as you drive past grand cathedrals and amazing 18th-century balconies that line the central plazas. You will soon arrive at your five-star hotel in the Gothic Quarter, which is one of the city's most charming neighborhoods.

After becoming acclimated, you can grab your partner's hand for some self-guided exploration. You can stroll down the vivacious pedestrian boulevard that is known as La Rambla, which is where artists sell beautiful paintings and shop vendors sell souvenirs of colorful flamenco fans and wooden castanets. You can marvel at the luscious archways that are formed by towering treetops. You may be lucky enough to have a musician serenade you as you indulge in afternoon drinks along the sunbathed terrace patios.

Finally, you can make your way down narrow, cobblestone streets and arrive at the open-aired Plaza Royal in Barcelona's native Catalan. Children may giggle as they play a game of tag in the plaza's center. Meanwhile, families and couples will gather around the square's perimeter for an evening meal. The plaza illuminates as night falls for a romantic first dinner in Barcelona. You can order traditional tapas like jamon iberico and Andalucian olives that will be seasoned to perfection. Finally, you will culminate your evening with a sweet glass of red wine from the famed wine country of La Rioja in Northern Spain.

Review: Spain Tour, Barcelona, Valencia, Madrid, Seville, Granada, Toledo, Costa Brava, Alhambra Tour, Soccer Game

We visited Barcelona, Valencia, Madrid, Sevilla, Granada and Toledo.

Our travel agency took care of making hotel reservations and providing us with guides for our tour.

All hotel reservations were fine, good, clean hotels great breakfast included.

Our guides were experts, very knowledgeable, nice and polite.

Our travel agency got us tickets for a soccer game in Barcelona and a bullfight in Madrid, good accommodations.

Only in one occasion, in Sevilla, we could not meet with our guide and had to go by our selves.

When visiting the Alhambra, in Granada, at the end of the visit we couldn't find where our bus was and had to take a taxi. The guide did not return with us.

In general, our travel agency's services were very good, they made our visit very enjoyable and would recommend them to any body willing to visit Spain.

Spain Travel Review: Madrid, Barcelona, Toledo, Gaudi Architecture, Local Cuisine & Culture, History
This travel team provided excellent service for our one-week trip in mainland Spain, visiting Barcelona and Madrid, with a day trip to Toledo. We worked with our agent to develop an itinerary that provided us with a good overview of these three cities during our short timeframe. They arranged our hotels, transfers, train transportation, guided tours, and tickets to several museums/sights we toured on our own. Because of the team’s extensive plan, we were able to visit museums, cathedrals, and other sights without waiting in lines and on days when these venues were open. The travel team also arranged personal guides to take us through busier, harder to navigate sights, such as The Prado Museum, La Sagrada Familia, and Toledo. The guides were excellent communicators, providing entertaining and informative talks on history and culture. We initially thought about planning this week ourselves but were overwhelmed by the many choices and logistics of selecting hotels and deciding what to do when. This self-guided, customized itinerary allowed us to maximize our time while touring the highlights for each location. We also had “peace of mind” knowing that we had experts to consult if problems arose. For instance, the Barcelona demonstrations were active during our visit; this travel team kept us informed and were ready to offer alternatives if necessary. Luckily, none were needed. We would definitely use this travel team on future trips to Spain, and Zicasso to help plan self-guided tours to other places around the world.

Spain Luxury Vacation Review: Madrid, Sevilla, Cadiz, Toledo, Flamenco Experience, Tapas Tour

We selected Zicasso’s travel company to work with in planning our trip to Spain. The founder was very attentive to what we were interested in doing and seeing. He also worked with us to ensure we could enjoy the trip, even though my husband has some mobility issues.

We arrived in Madrid and were transported to the high-speed train station, from where we traveled to Seville for four days. We stayed in the heart of the city, across from the cathedral. We loved the old, narrow, cobblestone streets and the many cafes with outdoor seating.

While in Seville we had a guided tour of the cathedral, Palace of Espana, and Alcazar Palace. The guide was excellent and the history was so interesting. We also watched a traditional flamenco show, took a cooking class, and visited the Hamman baths. On a day trip, we went to Cadiz and visited a local winery.

We returned by high-speed train to Madrid and took a tapas tour that evening. What a fun time of trying new foods and visiting several restaurants. We enjoyed a tour of the Royal Palace and a walking tour through the Plaza Mayor and the Habsburg district. On our last day in Spain, we took a day trip to Toledo. What a beautiful and interesting city, with thousands of years of history.

Every event, tour, and sightseeing excursion was timely and went very smoothly, thanks to the planning and efforts of our travel agency.

Spain Trip Review: Barcelona, Bilbao, Rioja, San Sebastián, Madrid, Toledo, Sitges, Montserrat, Private Tours
My overall comments on the trip are fantastic. My wife and I spent nine days in Spain: three in Barcelona, two in Bilbao and Rioja, two in San Sebastián, and two in Madrid, with a day trip to Toledo. We were in Spain from April 19 to 28. I believe we were there before the height of the tourist season, so I feel it may have been less crowded, which was great for us. It was a great vacation!
