Istanbul – A Tale of Two Continents

Welcome to Istanbul, a city that inhabits two uniquely different worlds. Istanbul has always been a city that combined the East and the West, shaped by the region’s eclectic cultures and history. The Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia dominate the skyline. Their minarets and large domes are graceful against the background of the Bosphorus, the narrow straight that connects the Black Sea and the Sea of Marmara. Your private transfer is waiting at the airport to escort you to a luxurious hotel in the historic center of the city. The restaurant has a charming balcony and uninterrupted view of the Blue Mosque. You can see the bright sapphire sea from your window. Istanbul is filled with bustling streets and charming alleyways that emanate the aroma of rich Turkish coffee. As the sun sets over the horizon, the call to prayer adds a gentle melody to the city.

Detailed Description

The upper reaches of Mesopotamia will be discovered and explored on your 12-day luxury travel through Turkey’s eclectic culture and rich history. Hagia Sophia adds an impressive dome to Istanbul’s skyline. The reliefs of Gobekli Tepe are over 8,000 years old. You find a procession of polytheistic statues at the top of Mount Nemrut. From the cave dwellings alongside the Tigris River to the golden Monastery of Deyrulzafaran, the images of Turkey’s countryside will soon transcend ancient legend and become discovered history.

Your Turkish discovery begins with your arrival in Istanbul. The city is a mixture of tradition and modernity, filled with customs that straddle both East and West. You will transfer to Adana and the nearby Open-Air Museum of Karatepe National Park. The Neo-Hittite capital is a beautiful example of the fabulous artistry of history and the depths of antiquity held in Turkey’s countryside. You will spend the evening in Antioch.

In the morning you will visit the Church of St. Peter and see the Archeological Museum that contains magnificent mosaics from the Roman and Byzantine empires. Also visit the ancient city of Seleuceia in Pieria. You will travel to the ancient quarry of Yesemek that was once home to a Hittite sculpting school. In Gaziantep the aroma of pistachios and honey is strong and inviting. Visit the historical stone house and Emine Gogus Cuisine Museum.

The following day you will set out for Sanliurfa by way of the Ibis farms of Birecik. Once in Sanliurfa you will head to the celebrated Cave of Abraham. The beehive mud style houses of Harran date back to the times of Mesopotamia. On Mount Nemrut you will find the gigantic funerary sanctuary of King Antiochos I.

Travel to Gobekli Tepe to witness the oldest discovered temple in the world. You will then make your way to the Monastery of Deyrulzafaran and visit the exceptional religious history of Mardin. The ancient village of Hasankeyf is filled with both grand displays of its opulent past and sensational cave dwellings set alongside the river. Venture onto Van Lake to see Akdamar Island and the 10th century Armenian cathedral. Your final day will return you to Istanbul to make the journey home. You could always extend your stay in Turkey and enjoy more of the country’s extraordinary history and unparalleled landscape.

Turkey Vacation Review: Istanbul, Cappadocia, Ephesus, Basilica Cistern, Bosphorus Cruise, Hot-Air Balloon Ride, Dinner at Agent's Home, Underground City, 12 Nights

This was my second Zicasso trip, the first being to Peru in 2024, so I had full confidence in their travel company and was delighted by the level of care and attention to detail throughout the trip.

I essentially had three trips while in Turkey. I arrived a day early to attend a six-day cooking school that was independently arranged. The travel company smoothly organized my airport pickup and first-night hotel. After the cooking school, I was again booked in the original hotel (old town, close to major sites, clean, nice), and my daughter joined me for a week-long tour of Istanbul, Cappadocia, and Ephesus.

The guides in each region were knowledgeable, though we could have made do with fewer facts (height in meters of the Blue Mosque, area in square meters of Hagia Sophia, number of sheep in the country) and had more free time to explore on our own. We loved the major Istanbul sites, the Bosphorus cruise, and lunch on the Asia side. We were delighted with our cave hotel in Cappadocia and the hot-air balloon ride on my daughter's birthday. We loved strolling through Ephesus.

All the internal flights were arranged, booked, and checked in by the agent, so all we had to do was show up on time. The vans that transported us were clean and nice, with good drivers. After my daughter left, I was booked for three nights on a gulet, with stops on the Mediterranean. It was a nice way to slow down and finish the busy trip.

The highlight of my travels was dinner at my agent's home with his lovely family. He even arranged for me to find some earrings like those of his mother, which I had admired, and then drove me to the airport. Above and beyond!

Egypt, Turkey Travel Review: Istanbul, Cappadocia, Ephesus, Cairo, Luxor, Private Guides, 2 Weeks

Our journey through Turkey and Egypt in May 2025 with Zicasso's travel company was nothing short of spectacular. From the moment we landed until our final departure, every detail was thoughtfully arranged, making the experience seamless, immersive, and truly unforgettable.

What set this trip apart was our exceptional tour guides. In both countries, the guides were not only incredibly knowledgeable, but also passionate, warm, and attentive. They brought the rich histories of Istanbul, Cappadocia, Ephesus, Cairo, Luxor, and beyond vividly to life. Whether we were exploring ancient ruins or navigating vibrant bazaars, our guides made every moment engaging and meaningful.

A special mention must go to our tour organizer. His behind-the-scenes coordination, quick responsiveness, and personal care were evident throughout. He ensured every transition was smooth, every need was anticipated, and every traveler felt individually looked after. His dedication and professionalism elevated the entire experience.

We returned home with a deeper appreciation of these remarkable destinations, lasting memories, and a strong desire to travel again with our travel company. We highly recommended them for anyone seeking a thoughtfully curated, high-touch travel experience.

Turkey, Greece Trip Review: Istanbul, Athens, Cappadocia, Delphi, Santorini, Ancient Sites, 2 Weeks

Zicasso's travel specialist put together a memorable trip for us to Turkey and Greece on somewhat short notice. All the transportation and tours went smoothly, and we got to see many interesting sites.

Our agent made sure we were cared for properly during our travel time too, occasionally checking in with us. We had a disappointment with one tour and he tried to make it right. I can fully recommend his services for a tour of the region.

Turkey Vacation Review: Istanbul, Kayseri, Izmir, Cappadocia, Topkapi Palace, Ephesus, Local Cuisine, History, Culture, 8 Nights

The trip was well organized, with professional and courteous guides, transport staff, and support staff. They picked us up on time and in well-maintained vehicles. The coordination and communication were fantastic. It was seamless travel between Istanbul, Kayseri, and İzmir.

We interacted with three guides. All of them were professional, punctual, flexible, and very knowledgeable. It felt like we were hanging out with friends or family.

This was the best travel experience we've ever had. The team were like ambassadors for Turkey. Visit Türkiye for its people, culture, history, places, and, most importantly, its food, the best cuisine in the world.

Turkey Tour Review: Cappadocia, Ephesus, Aphrodisias, 9 Nights

We loved our trip with the tour operator! Our travel agent was excellent in his detailed itinerary and answered all our questions immediately. He was a very personable and positive person, so dealing with him was enjoyable. When there were updates or changes, the online trip plan was updated immediately.

All our tours were exactly as described and the guides and drivers were excellent. They were open and flexible, and we especially enjoyed our days with our guide in Ephesus, as he was probably one of the best guides we’ve ever had on a Zicasso trip.

We highly recommend using the tour operator and recommend everyone experience Turkey!
