Luxury Japan Vacation Review: Hakone, Hiroshima, Tokyo, Kyoto, Morimoto Orchid Nursery, Yudanaka Snow Monkeys, Mt Fuji

We just returned from a 3 week trip to Japan and must really compliment Laura and her team at this Japan travel agency for putting together exactly what we asked for.  It was our first time going to Japan - one of my biggest concerns was about the level of guided tours versus what we could do on our own.  Beyond having car service for the airport at the very beginning and end of the trip, Laura had us sparingly use full day guides for our first 2 days in Tokyo, our first day in Kyoto and when we needed a translator to visit an orchid nursery that was a bit off the beaten path near Morimoto - but the rest of the time we were on our own using public transit (Japan Rail bullet trains and local trains, buses, subways, and only limited use of taxis) - and we really had no problems.  Things were well marked in English most of the time and people in Japan are so polite and friendly that we often had people coming up offering to help us even when we did not need it or asked - but when we were a little lost at times, we quickly got pointed in the right direction.  We moved around quite a lot and everywhere we went we felt welcomed, safe and comfortable.

We started in Tokyo in the Ginza district for a few days, then went up to Yudanaka near Nagano to see the snow monkeys in the natural hot springs in the mountains - and it was snowing in March there - but beautiful - this was our first ryokan stay and one of my favorite places - we also went to Morimoto, Takayama, Hiroshima - with a day trip to Miyajima, Kyoto for several days, Hakone near Mt Fuji (this was my only disappointment - as we were not able to see Mt Fuji itself there - but had a great time in the region anyway - and did get a glimpse of Mt Fuji earlier in the trip when not expected - while traveling outside Takayama on the train on a day trip to a nursery) - and then ended the trip back in Tokyo for a few days - we saw so many Shinto shrines, Buddhist temples, and lovely gardens - I really got a feel for the subtle differences among the different regions and the historical contexts.

The hotels were also top notch all around - every place we stayed seemed perfectly placed for the itineraries to make it easy for us to get around on public transit - and the accommodations were comfortable and we always had breakfast included, and those were some of the best meals we had - again, I do not think we had a bad meal for the entire trip - despite be adventurous at times and trying many things that we were not initially sure of what they were. Besides all the fresh seafood and pickled veggies, I came to love soba and buckwheat tea, various forms of tofu including the soft "yuba," soups, and the warm egg custards.  Japanese meals in the ryokans are quite a production - and as entertaining as tasty - but often the simple meals - noodles and soups, are perfect and just what you want at times.  My partner loved the octopus "balls" - takoyaki, and the Japanese pancakes.

Travel Review: Luxury Japan Tour, Tokyo, Hakone, Kamakura, Paper Making, Meditation, Bamboo Workshop, Tea Ceremony, Sushi Lesson
My brother and I just got back from our first trip to Japan. We wanted everything to be taken care of for us, from airport transfer, to accommodations, to tours and transport. Zicasso set us up with our travel company. I was contacted by their Luxury Travel Consultant, by Email and had a follow up phone call to discuss my expectations and desires for the vacation. I had very few specifics in mind, just a general idea of what I wanted (food, history, culture) and needed a lot of help. Our travel company listened to my interests and came up with an amazing itinerary suggestion. They customized the itinerary to my interests and were responsive and quick to adapt to any changes I requested throughout the planning process. They handled all the planning/logistics in regards to hotel bookings, airport transportation, setting up personal tour guides, private tours/experiences, and event tickets. I was expecting a great trip based on the itinerary provided, but I can honestly say my expectations were exceeded. Everything went very smoothly. We spent 7 days in Tokyo, 1 day and night in Hakone, and 1 day trip to Kamakura. The personal tour guides were professional, knowledgeable, and fun. They showed us around Tokyo, Hakone, and Kamakura, and made sure we were comfortable and entertained. The private bookings we had included Japanese Paper Making, discussion and meditation with a Zen master, a bamboo artisan workshop, a matcha tea ceremony with a tea master, a Ramen lunch experience with a ramen author/blogger, and a fish market experience and sushi making lesson and lunch with a Sushi chef. Each one was delightful, professional, and catered personally to our interests. In Hakone, after sight seeing, we stayed at the most charming and beautiful Ryokan and enjoyed the onsen and kaiseki dinner served in room. Kamakura was an perfect suggestion for a day trip out of Tokyo and is one of the most beautiful historic sites I've ever seen.

Japan Tour Review: Tokyo, Kanazawa, Kyoto, Nara, Osaka, Nagoya, Hakone, Ryokan, Baseball, Tea Ceremony, Local Cuisine, 16 Days

Zicasso's travel specialist and her team planned an absolutely outstanding 16-day trip for me and my family. We visited Tokyo, Ghibli Park (near Nagoya), Kanazawa, Kyoto (with day trips to Nara and Osaka), and then wrapped things up with two nights at a beautiful and luxurious ryokan in Hakone.

Communication leading up to the trip was clear and efficient, and whenever we had a question during the trip, we were able to get quick answers from our travel company's rep in Japan.

I would absolutely book another trip with this company.

Travel Review: Magical Family Vacation in Japan, Tokyo, Kamakura, Hakone, Miyajima Island, Kyoto with Tea Ceremony, Osaka
We are a family of 4 with 2 very small daughters (3.5 years and 5 months) so it was challenging from the beginning since we also wanted to visit the mountainous area and access out-of-the-beaten path ryokans. Andres crafted a seamless trip for us and listened to our needs. This had been our dream trip for many years and he made it all happen the way we wanted. We had a magical time. Over 10 days we visited Tokyo, Kamakura, Hakone area, Miyajima and spent the last night in Osaka to take off from there.

Luxury Japan Tour Review, Wasabi Farm, Lunch with a Rice Farmer, Fish Auction, Ikebana Lesson, Mountain Tea Farm, Food & Ryokans
We had an outstanding trip terrifically planned by this travel planner.  Our trip, which ran for 16 days, encompassed visits to Takayama, Shikawa-go, Kanazawa, Kyoto, Nara, Osaka, Hiroshima, Shizuoka and a few additional towns.  We primarily stayed at ryokans, at our request.  The ryokans were wonderful and unique, each providing a wonderful Japanese experience, great service and delicious food.We had numerous wonderful encounters including:a visit to the largest wasabi farm in Japan, high in the mountains;a visit to a tea farm in the mountains;lunch at the home of an 84 year old rice farmer in a small mountain town of some 70 villagers;tour of a small town which uses aquifers to provide most of its water;tour of a sake brewery;attending an auction of fish just harvested;seeing fish and vegetable markets; a 3 hour cooking lesson in the chef's home;an ikebana (flower arranging) lesson;the "usual" visits to shrines, castles, museumsThe entire trip was exquisitely planned and flawlessly executed with superb guides, drivers, and staff to meet us at train stations.

Japan Honeymoon Review: Tokyo, Hakone, Gokayama, Hiroshima, Osaka, Kyoto, Tea Ceremony, Ryokan, Local Cuisine, 2-Week Trip
We had an unforgettable 2-week trip in Japan organized by Himanthi and her team at the travel agency. This was our honeymoon and we couldn't have asked for more!We had a preliminary phone call with Himanthi so that she could get an idea of what kind of hotels and experiences we were interested in and then she was excellent at communicating the different solutions she had found for us in a timely manner. The first night in Tokyo we had an unbelievable private sushi making session with an outstanding chef (Nobuhiko Saisho). The food was absolutely amazing, the quality was top notch and both the chef and sake sommelier were very nice and enjoyable. Other experiences included sleeping in a beautiful, authentic ryokan in Hakone after a fun hike, a mini cruise on lake Ashi, washi paper making experience in Gokayama (a beautiful village in the Japanese Alps), and a tea ceremony in Kyoto with a real maiko (an apprentice geisha). Himanthi even helped us make reservations for nice restaurants in Tokyo and Kyoto. The hotels were all really nice with breakfast always included and located in very convenient locations. The train rides were all perfectly organized by Himanthi and her team so all we had to do was follow the instructions. We had 4 different guides in Tokyo, Takayama, Hiroshima/Miyajima and Osaka/Kyoto and they were all knowledgable, extremely nice, personable and just a pleasure to spend time with! Most of all, when a typhoon unexpectedly hit and the bullet trains between Kyoto and Tokyo were out of service on our last 2 days, Himanthi and her local team member in Japan helped us immensely! They guided us through the situation, helped us find a new hotel in Kyoto, communicated effectively with our hotel in Tokyo, tracked our suitcases to make sure we would have them in time for our flight and found an alternative train route for us to take an reach Tokyo so that we didn't miss our flight. Had we not had them, our last few days in Japan would have been a lot more stressful! Overall, we had a great experience with this travel company and recommend them wholeheartedly!
