Peru Travel Review: Lima, Cusco, Machu Picchu, Aguas Caliente, Puerto Maldonado, Sacred Valley, Amazon, Private Ruins Tours

We were extremely happy with every aspect of our trip to Peru and the outstanding assistance and support by Stuart, Satish and others at our Peru travel agency. We flew directly to Cusco and spent two nights there seeing the various sites in and around the city with a private guide, then a private guided tour to the Sacred Valley by van spending the night in Ollantaytambo. The next morning we took the train to Machu Picchu and had a private tour of the ruins followed by a stay in the wonderful Inkaterra MP Pueblo. The following day we took the train from Aguas Caliente to Cusco - a very pleasant and comfortable way to travel. The next morning we were off to the airport traveling to Puerto Maldonado for a three night stay in the Inkaterra Amazonica Reserva. We had wonderful guides with a special hats off to Jorge in Cusco and SV. Our MP guide was also excellent. We had terrific support getting around in all the locations and would highly recommend this travel company to not only our friends but to all who consider traveling to and about Peru!

Luxury Peru Family Vacation Review: Cuzco, Lima, Aguas Calientes, Sacred Valley, Puerto Maldonado, Machu Picchu, Huayna Picchu Trek

We would highly recommend this Peru travel company to help you to organize your trip.  We came back from a two week-long trip to Peru a few days ago.  We have been independent travelers in the past so this was our first experience in being accompanied by guides for a good part of the vacation.  Paul from this agency contracted with the local tour operator to arrange transportation and guides.  His dossier contained everything we needed to know, including suggestions for tipping, places to enjoy a delicious meal, and more.  All of our guides  were very intelligent, passionate about what they did, had a great deal of pride for their country, and highly knowledgeable about the sites, history, culture, and traditions of their country.  We not only enjoyed the tours, but also learned quite a bit about the Peruvian educational and political systems through our discussions.  The guides were respectful and easy to share our time with.  My only complaint is that their English was so good that we were less apt to use Spanish, although that was counterbalanced by their willingness to teach us a little Quechua!  Special kudos to our guide who supported us when one family member became ill enough with altitude sickness to have to stay overnight at a clinic/hospital.  We traveled to Lima, Cusco, Aguas Calientes, Sacred Valley, and Puerto Maldonado.  While we enjoyed some activities in Lima, we probably could have shortened our three night stay there to either venture to another location or stay longer in one of the other places.  Cusco was simply lovely and we had great meals and tours there and in the Sacred Valley.  We were treated to a delicious lunch at a new place right outside of Moray.  We loved seeing Machu Picchu but also were glad that we stayed an extra day to climb Huayna Picchu.  Our stay in Puerto Maldonado was lots of fun--our days were full with many ecoguide-led outdoor activities, including a hot trek through mud to a boat ride (fun!!), a nighttime walk, a canopy walk, and boat rides (looking for caimans at night was a highlight).  Overall, we had an excellent trip which would not have been possible without Paul's help.  He listened well to our wishes, made suggestions based upon what we said, and arranged for wonderful accommodations for our family.  We suggest that you use this travel agency to book your next adventure.  And also highly suggest that you consider Peru as a fun and varied country to visit!

Review: Father-Daughter Trip to Peru, Sacred Valley, Cusco, Lima, Inca Trail, Machu Picchu, History, Culture, Wildlife

This travel agency and it's owner/agent planned a fabulous Peru vacation for us (July 2018).  I'm impressed by the flexibility, customization, experience, and recommendations our travel agent provided.  He followed through with attention to all details, and he was available and expertly made required itinerary changes when we missed our connecting flight.

We chose the destinations, hotel star level, and duration (13 days).  Our travel agent then made the itinerary proposals, giving us guidance and input.  We chose to visit the Amazon jungle and the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, staying in 4 star hotels.  We went to Tambopata and stayed at the Refugio Amazonas jungle lodge for 3 nights.  The lodge and its surroundings are beautiful.  The macaw clay lick tour is not to be missed.  We then visited charming Cusco for 2 days, allowing us to acclimate to the altitude (11,000 feet) for our trek.  We had great private tours of Cusco and the Sacred Valley with guides from the tour company.  We then had a fabulous 4 day private Inca Trail Trek, also guided by our tour company.  The hotel in Cusco was very nice and well positioned in the historic district.  Our travel agent's choice of a suite at the hotel in Aguas Clients after the trek was a luxurious treat after camping.

I give this travel company my highest recommendation.  The trip was first rate, well planned, well supported, and a good value.  I also enthusiastically recommend traveling to Peru; the sites are spectacular, the people are friendly and honest, the food is very good, and we felt safe throughout our trip.  It was a exhilarating, memorable vacation.

Peru Travel Agent Review: Lima, Cusco, Sacred Valley, Machu Picchu, Puno, Lake Titicaca, Taquile, Llachon, Uros, Colca, 12-Day Tour
Jason, our travel consultant, planned the trip of a lifetime for us- simply perfect! He was there for us from the first email communication, throughout the trip, and even took time to meet us in Lima at the end of our trip- he is a top-notch professional! We traveled to the Sacred Valley/Machu Picchu (Cusco), Lake Titicaca, Uros and Taquile Islands (Puno), and the Colca Canyon/Condors! (Arequipa). The travel itinerary was intense, but every detail had been intricately and gracefully planned to ensure we were beyond comfortable with our guides, drivers, and lodgings.  We lacked for nothing and enjoyed authentic Peruvian restaurants/haciendas, outstanding Peruvian lodgings, and stellar tour guides who accommodated our every request.  Seriously, the trip exceeded all of our expectations!  If you're planning a trip to Peru, book it through Zicasso and this travel company-----they will make your dream come true!

Luxury South America Honeymoon Review: Peru, Ecuador, Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Bolivia, Rio de Janeiro, Machu Picchu, Nazca Lines

Our trip to South America had been in the pipeline for several years so when it came to putting it into actuality we wanted to make sure that it was just right. We hunted around to find a travel agent who could tailor a package to suit our needs. We came up with a list of 4 travel agents in 4 different countries but eventually we chose this travel agency. Our decision was based on  the the travel agency's approachability (whenever we emailed a question we always received an immediate and comprehensive response); also our agency's flexibility in being able to add or alter different options, and their friendly and helpful advice. Our contact was with Heather who made herself available to chat on Skype at all times. (It is very reassuring to be able to personalise travel arrangements - it makes it seem less like dealing with an anonymous organisation and more like chatting with a friend and mentor.)Our agent provided us with a comprehensive written itinerary which left nothing in doubt. She organised all transfers, internal flights, tours with local operators (some private, some group). At one stage when demonstrations in Cusco interrupted train and bus services, Heather immediately stepped in to organise suitable alternatives. We understand that other tourists did not fair so well and were stranded on train platforms or forced to pay for exorbitant hotel accommodation. Our 43-day tour included visits to 6 countries -  Chile, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Argentina and Brazil. Right from the onset in Quito we were met by a wonderful guide who shared his knowledge of Ecuador - its geology, its history, its politics and its food. Our agent marked the beginning of a series of friendly, well informed and entertaining tour guides from the different regions we visited. We had an amazing holiday visiting all the well known tourist sites - Galapagos, Machu Picchu, Colca Canyon, Lake Titicaca, Iguasu Falls and Rio de Janeiro. And a few maybe a little less touristy such as Paracas and the Ballestas Islands, the Peruvian Amazon basin, Nazca lines and the Bolivian Salt Lake of Uyuni. When we used bus transport it was reasonably comfortable, hotel accommodation was always clean and comfortable and airport transfers were always on time. All hotels included breakfast which naturally varied from one hotel to another but it was always quite adequate and healthy. At different times when other meals were provided such as on the Galapagos cruise, in the Amazon Basin, on Lake Titicaca and during the Sacred Valley tour the quality of the food was quite impressive. We are now considering another visit to South America - this time to Patagonia and we will definitely be looking at involving this travel agency again with our trip arrangements.Muchas gratias!

Travel Review: Peru Solo Tour, Puno, Sacared Valley, Pisac, Cusco, Pisac, Aguas Calientes, Machu Picchu, Lake Titicaca

I loved my trip to Peru! My travel agency's suggestions and arrangements were for the most part excellent.  I traveled solo for 11 days and visited Cusco, the Sacred Valley, Machu Picchu, and Lake Titicaca.

My hotel in Cuzco  was comfortable, though I wished it were a little closer to the Plaza..  The first morning in Cuzco, my wake-up call was somehow forgotten, and the first call I got was from my guide telling me she was downstairs waiting for me.  She told me to relax and we would work things out, and to take my time.  We left late, but it didn't detract from wonderful ceremony with a local shaman.  We drove up above Cuzco and hiked up to a spot where Asencio performed a ceremonial blessing with my guide translating his words.  An unforgettable and moving experience that's difficult to describe!  My guide was superb!

From there I traveled by bus with a group to the Sacred Valley, stopping at Pisac, a colorful market, and Ollayntaytambo (both worth seeing!) before settling into my hotel, a former convent with beautiful gardens and a chapel right next door.

The following day I rock-climbed for the first time.  Gorgeous views of the Sacred Valley and river running through it, while climbing 1300 feet up the rock face!  This isn't for those who fear heights, but if you don't, this is a fantastic way to climb for the first time, then descend via 6 zip lines!  A must do!

Traveling to Machu Picchu via Vistadome was next on the itinerary.  The train was first-class---very comfortable, with excellent service.  The vistadome allows passengers to see the amazing views of the Andes while en route to Agua Calientes and Machu Picchu.  Upon arrival I was greeted by our guide who arranged for bags to go to the hotel, and led us to the bus that takes you to Machu Picchu.  I knew Machu Picchu would be amazing and it didn't disappoint. No words really to describe its beauty. I opted to go back the second day without a guide to continue exploring on my own.

After a return train trip to Cuzco, I left the following day for an all-day bus ride to Puno that included stops at varied and interesting sights--a beautiful church with painted ceilings, a colonial bridge, a pre-Incan temple, at the top of the pass (over 14,400 feet), a tasty lunch buffet where we were serenaded by Peruvian music and more.

After an overnight in Puno, I was picked up at the hotel and taken to the dock for an overnight stay on Amantani Island.  Unfortunately, the transfer process broke down. These guides seemed to be subcontracted by my travel agency and had a different company name. The guide left me with the driver who was supposed to connect me with the group and the boat I was going to take.  The guide seemed overbooked, and the driver disappeared while I was buying gifts for the host family, and I was left wandering around the dock with a crowd of people and unmarked boats, not knowing where to go.  I finally asked one of the vendors to make a call and I eventually figured out which boat I was supposed to be on.  Once settled on the boat, I thoroughly enjoyed the visits to Uros and Taquile and the overnight on Amantani was fascinating and a wonderful ending to my Peruvian trip!

Strengths:

Overall,my travel agency did a great job of arranging a customized trip for me.  I'm not one for extended group tours and this itinerary allowed me to have just the right combination of tours and solo time.  Guides were excellent--knowledgeable, courteous.  I ended up changing my itinerary pretty late in the game and my agency was very accommodating which was very much appreciated.I felt I got great value overall for the price.

Suggestions:

I wished I had my travel documents in hand before arriving in Peru. I would have felt more comfortable with having them before I left the US. Transfers could be better organized.  I had difficulty finding my travel agency in a crowd of 50-70 or more signs.  Maybe use a sign that would stand out?  Also during the transfer process at the Puno harbor, the guide turned over to the driver who spoke no English and then disappeared, leaving me with no information about where to go.Hotels selected could have been closer to the main parts of town so that walking could have been a better option.
