Greece Trip Planner Sample Itineraries

Our trip to Greece was fantastic. Zicasso’s tour company provided us with a wonderful itinerary for Athens and the islands, and we continued our third week to visit the mainland of Greece, from Meteora to Delphi to Olympia, Mystras, and Nafplio.

The tour company was with us throughout our visit, assisting continuously with any challenge or change of itinerary needed. Their service was absolutely outstanding.

The travel fairy at Zicasso's tour operator, as she called herself (and I felt it fit her well), certainly put together a magical trip to Greece for our group of four. We all had a fantastic vacation in Greece and were super-impressed and pleased with the staff at the travel company.

The connections for flights and ferries, as well as all of the transfers to and from our hotels and excursions, were seamless, which made for a stress-free vacation. The hotels they arranged for us ranged from old Venetian buildings in older parts of Athens and Heraklion to an upscale small resort in Naxos, as well as a fantastic hotel in Chania that overlooked the harbor. My husband and I loved every one, especially the resort in Naxos.

I highly suggest this travel company because they listened to our group's likes and dislikes to plan the perfect trip. Our trip consisted of Athens, Naxos, and two places on Crete, filled with two food tours, a boat trip, historical excursions to the Parthenon and Knossos, as well as excursions in nature to Imbros Gorge and Balos Beach. Any guide during these excursions was very knowledgeable.

We would change only the following two things. Naxos was so beautiful and we were all sad to leave and wish we could have added an extra day to just relax on the beach for a full day. So, my suggestion to anyone traveling to Greece would be to save at least one full day at one of the beautiful islands without an excursion.

The other thing we would change is to take a boat to Balos Beach instead of walking down to the beach. My husband is 80 years old and although he is in good shape, the hike was very steep and scary in some parts. As we were walking down to the beach, we loved the incredible vistas, but were also concerned about having to walk back up the equivalent of 66 flights of stairs. I say this just as a cautionary tale to really look into this walk before your trip. The views were hard to beat, but the walk was not easy.

Highlights of this trip included the hotel in Naxos (our resort on Plaka in Naxos), with super-friendly and helpful staff, private tour of Knossos and the museum, and the charming city of Chania. Greece is truly a beautiful country, with stunning vistas, beaches, historical sites, museums, and cute narrow streets filled with shops and restaurants.

Throughout the trip, what stood out most—beyond the stunning landscapes and ancient history—was the friendliness of the Greek people. Their warmth and pride in their culture made every moment feel welcoming and genuine.

Zicasso's travel agent played a pivotal role in planning this trip over the course of more than a year, displaying exceptional patience and providing thoughtful, detailed answers to hundreds of questions. When she informed me that she would be going on maternity leave and connecting me with another team member, I was pleasantly surprised when she continued to assist me throughout her leave. Her commitment to ensuring a seamless experience was evident as she expertly organized a Classical Greece tour for a group of eight from four different locations.

Our itinerary included a comprehensive exploration of Athens, the monasteries of Meteora, Arachova, Delphi, Olympia, Mystras, Epidavros, Monemvasia, Nafplion, Sparta, and Corinth. We also had the opportunity to visit a variety of local sites, including an ouzo distillery, an olive oil-processing facility (where we enjoyed a delicious complimentary lunch), an aloe vera farm, and a honey farm. We went to a little fishing village which was the home of our agent's husband and enjoyed fresh fish and wine. Each visit was accompanied by informative tours and tastings.

Our guide demonstrated an extraordinary depth of knowledge so extensive, in fact, that one of our group members took notes while another recorded his explanations. His passion for sharing Greek history and culture was evident throughout the tour. Our driver was equally impressive, showing great skill and professionalism. He ensured our comfort by offering assistance with boarding the van, making stops for bathroom breaks and refreshments, and even surprised us one morning by presenting oranges he had picked.

One of the highlights of the trip was staying at the resort in Crete, which I can confidently say was the most exquisite resort I’ve ever experienced. The accommodations were luxurious and our group of four friends thoroughly enjoyed the spa treatments and relaxing moments in the hot tub.

The quality of food at every location we visited was consistently exceptional ‒ fresh, authentic, and flavorful. As an olive oil enthusiast, I can attest that Greek olive oil is unparalleled in taste and quality.

Given the cost of the trip was shared among eight participants, it was surprisingly affordable. Despite most of us being educators, we found the trip to be within reach. Additionally, all breakfasts were included, which further added to the value of this remarkable experience. It’s hard to imagine any future trip surpassing the incredible experience I had in Greece. The journey was so remarkable that I find it difficult to envision another destination that could offer a more enriching or memorable experience.

Our trip to mainland Greece, organized by Zicasso's tour agency, was the best luxury trip my husband and I have enjoyed to date. Every hotel and site tour guide was carefully selected for our needs and interests, and they were all outstanding! Our driver for the entire trip was warm, courteous, and highly professional. We saw all the sites we'd requested and a couple of fun surprises along the way.

We travelled from Athens to various spots in the Peloponnese, then through the lush plains of Thessaly to Meteora, and then, finally, Thessaloniki. The accommodations were superb, with special shout-outs to the hotels in Athens, Nafplio, and Thessaloniki. We spent our last night at the Athens airport hotel and were so glad we did. The suite was stunning and completely soundproof. The food during our trip was incredible (especially at the hotel roof restaurant in Thessaloniki) and traveling by car allowed us to fully appreciate the gorgeous mountain and sea views. The Greek people were warm and super-friendly. Nearly everyone spoke English.

When we arrived in Athens, our travel consultants met us at our centrally located, fabulous hotel with all the info we needed, as well as a Greek cell phone and lovely gifts. All instructions were clear and details perfectly arranged. We really can't exaggerate how wonderful this trip was and we'll definitely return to this company for our next trip to Greece. 10/10 stars, though they deserve an even higher rating.
